Lack of Gossamer Scraps
Honestly for the amount that you need (making yourself exotic armor for example) I don’t feel like the price is that bad. So I have just been buying gossamer bolts from the trade post with each new piece of armor I craft. I think I only have gloves left to create. All the rest of my gear is exotic.
What are you using to salvage and what is your brother using? Best bet is to use the rare quality salvage kit that you make in the mystic forge.
I’d actually advise against using the Mystic Salvage kit just for Gossamer. Save that kit’s uses for salvaging ectos off of lvl 70+ rares. If you already have the stones needed to make the kit though, it might be worth using. If you have to buy gems with in-game gold to get the stones needed to make it, it’s surely not worth it to use for harvesting gossamer.
I’ve been using Basic Salvage Kits (1-up from crude) and getting gossamer/ori from salvaging lvl 76+ whites without a problem. You’ll also get a bunch of silk doing this, which you can then use in the forge to make gossamer when you hit 250.

In the interest of helping you out a bit I would ask…do you have map completion on all the high level zones? I finished Frostsound Gorge and one of my rewards was 40 Gossamer Scraps, so they’re a possible reward for that.
Additionally I got a fair bit from Heavy Moldy Bags and salvaging white cloth armor drops in Cursed Shore…and the mountains of Silk you’d get from this can be taken to the Mystic Forge and turned into smaller piles of Gossamer.
Uh the easiest way is to just salvage all your cloth whites. I use basic salvage kits for that. You will get your gossamer scraps over time (and alot of silk too, that you can sell/promote)
I only use karma brought crude salvage kits and got enough to make 3 exotics myself. I don’t see the difference between using a better salvage kit, same results. If you really in need of it, salvage blue and green cloth equips also but I’ve been only salvaging whites.
The easy way to get gossamer scraps is to salvage 75+ white and blue armor items. For this, you only need a basic salvage kit.
Farm around Malchor’s Leap, Cursed Shore area and they’re quite easy to get. Good luck!

Thanks for replies!
To be honest, I know that gossamer comes primary from salvaging. But what are the chances, that after you salvage 20+ items of lvl 75+ of different quality, you get a lot of silk and no gossamer? I’m gonna try another run today, maybe it was a one-time situation.
Anyway, thanks for all the advices!
I haven’t done any serious stat-keeping, but I’ve tracked how many gossamer/ori I get per basic salvage kit and it ranges from 1-4 total, since I salvage both cloth and metal items (medium isn’t worth it since leather is dirt cheap). Considering they’re both “rare” mats that fall in the 10% chance of retrieving, if you salvaged just cloth items you should be landing somewhere near that 1-4 range for just gossamer (or so I think). I’d have to say you’re probably just really unlucky salvaging so far, or you’re using crude kits :P
Long term you should be getting ~2.5 gossamer average per kit (10% of 25 uses is 2.5), plus a bunch of silk. Also realize ori is worth good money, so I’d advise to also salvage metals & heavy armor lvl 75+ since you can sell those, buy gossamer, and still be left with a little coin

Inus whenever I farm I use some magic find (MF) and usually get gossamer scraps even when I’m not specifically looking for it. I find it quite common.
Silk you will get quite a bit of as that’s to be expected but occasionally you’ll get the gossamer as well (maybe in about a 4 – 1 ratio of Silk to Gossamer…. just going off memory)

actually, the ratio is much worse than 4 silk to 1 gossamer… its more like 9 to 1.
As others have stated… one of the best ways to get gossamer is from the Mystic Forge. I also got lucky and got some from a map completion, but you never know what high end material you are going to get from that.
it’s a good thing (sorta) one only needs very few gossamer to make one’s exotic lvl 80 armor set. the only time I think you’ll need loads is for making those gifts for legendaries.

Any rough idea how much Goss you would get from 250 silk?
Thanks!
10 to 50..
Average of like.. 16
Pretend that orichalcum nodes are gossamer nodes – they are basically 1:1 on the trading post, so just sell the ori and use the profit to buy gossamer
obiemvy.5632 > I was actually referring to the salvage rates of gossamer and not the MF as the source of gossamer
I still find it to be close to 4 silks to 1 gossamer (attempts) from salvaging white and blue armor items (lvl 76+) and I have much more gossamer now than I can even use lol

I have 2 stacks of gossamer bolts. It’s relatively easy to obtain if you salvage a lot (I have 88 points in agent of entropy). I salvage all whites, sell blues and greens except light armor which I also salvage (blues). This won’t net you a ton of gossamer (sometimes you get lucky), but it will net you a ton of silk.
Use that silk in the forge.
80% of the Goss I’ve acquired is from the Silk+PhiloStone+CrysDust recipe.
There’s no reason not to considering that silk is ironically one of the cheapest fabrics on the TP. (it was in GW1 as well)
After completing two full sets of cloth exotics, I have found using the Master Salvage kit for all cloth and scraps give better results. While it is a bit of investment to buy Master kits, if you only use them for cloth it isn’t too bad. It seemed to me at least as I get more Gossamer scraps from master kits rather than lower kits.
