I was just wondering what a good estimate would be for the hours involved in forging a Legendary? I know, given the chance factor and variable efficiency of the player, that times are bound to fluxuate, but there should be a general range or normal distribution of time involved to obtain the neccessary materials.

The main reason I’m asking is my interest in comparing the hours of crafting a legendary to the same amount of money one could make working (assuming different earnings) the same number of hours, and at what point it’s more economically feasible to just buy the gold via gem store and purchase one from the trading post?

I know there is a general stigma from many players about taking that route vs earning it the ‘right’ way, and I’m not trying to start an argument when there are so many other threads that have brushed such a topic. I can see merits to either side, and to be frank I like the option to purchase one if you have that much disposable income so you don’t feel left out having a career and wanting to enjoy the game at the same level as someone who has the time to invest in the game. I’m just curious about the numbers.

The big time factor that limits your legendary progress is the karma. Karma is pretty fixed and there is only so much karma you can farm in a day.

WvW is probably the best place to farm karma, as events can freely start whenever, and are much more frequent, killing a dolyak awards the same karma as shelters and there are usually 2×.

but yeah id say 4-600 im nearing 1400 and will be done with my 2nd legendary soon (literally need 42 skill points >.>)

I am alredy over 1000 hours on one character and i don’t even have a precurser. so there is that. been try in for my legendary eterinety since October so about 4 months. and Im not even half way throw. but i also am not grinding for the legendary eathor. just casually playing for it.

It really comes down to how much gold you want to spend and how you want to obtain said gold.

If buying gold via gems via rl cash one can have a legendary in a matter of minutes.

If using gold farmed ig best method estimates are roughly 10g a hour. Divide the cost of the one you want and presto.

If using the tp, it really depends on starting capital and you. Some players are not very good at playing the market while others earn 100s and 1000s a day.

Now if you don’t want to use the tp and you want to farm everything yourself, then it’s definitely going to take a lot of time. Pulling a number out of my kitten……1500hrs not including a precursor.

I’m at around 500 hours and I’d say I’m around 30%… (I have gift of mastery and mats here and there) I guess it would really depend on how dedicated you are to your goal. I would say I am semi-casual (I try to play 2-3 hrs everyday) but I do spend time running wvw with guildies, crafting, doing jumping puzzles and so on. The 500hrs also included my levelling to lvl 80, kind of a “start from beginning” thing as that was when I was still learning the game.

I have about 900 hours across all characters since August and I started seriously going for my legendary in December. I’m over halfway done and am at the point where I just need gold gold gold. I play about 2-5 hours on a normal day and can make a decent amount of money so long as I don’t stand around. I’ve heard of people getting them in as little as 300 hours, but they’re usually part of a guild that farms legendaries. I’d say I agree with most posters in that, if you’re semi hardcore, it’ll take between 400 and 600 hours. Mine might take less, but I was lucky and gifted with a precursor.

at this point i could care less for a legendary, as i’m only playing gw2 until the elder scrolls online releases, and if that does not have the things that I find enthralling in an mmo, i will probably just stop playing games unless they are really good. tired of how low quality most games are.
