Legendary & Transmutation
I’m pretty sure it’s possible. But if you’re gonna do that kinda thing, make sunrise. I believe it is cheaper and its still a greatsword. (you might change your mind about transmuting right after you make/buy it anyway, they’re all pretty good skins, just gotta use em first)
Cruzyo, I was wondering the same thing. I’m out to make the longbow but want the my current Fused skin. This very question is why it’s been saved to be the last Legendary I work on. A definitive answer on what Legendary parts stay would be great.
SeNoZinD has a point. Use one of the calculators out there that link to the Trading Post to see which of the greatswords is cheaper for you.
I was wondering about this too. I want to transmute my Juggernaut to Mjolnir. If all else fails I can just use a transmutation splitter.

If you don’t already have a legendary, I would suggest you stop and think for a moment about how many different stat combos you really use or would like to use on a regular basis. If its only 2-3, you’d probably be better off just making several more Visions and outfitting them with different stats. For Twilight or Sunrise, you’re looking at a minimum of 1700g in raw coin, plus all the other time consuming account bound stuff. VotM is currently about 200g, even if you factor in addition cost of making it ascended, it would still be way cheaper and faster to make a couple of dupes with different stats.
What you are asking about will work, just not sure if its the best option. Anyway, just something to consider.
@ SeNoZinD
I’m very certain that i wouldnt go with any of the GS skins over my Vision of the Mists
@Tentonhammr
I’ve got all the skins I desire already for the weapons I use on a regular basis.
for me it’s really just about the functionality and access to the infusion slots.
I also probably wouldn’t go for the Greatsword, more likely that i’d go for the Focus or Staff as they are more versatile for my Mesmer, especially since i prefer to play WvW.
I’m nowhere near making a Legendary, and reason is as I said before, that i dont fancy the skins to much, but if I can get the functionality of one along with my desired skin, i might start working towards one
Harbringer, I’m tempted to just try anyway since a splitter is only 300 Gems. I’d just rather someone else who’s done it to show us before I start on another Legendary.
Tentonhammer, I’ve got five Legendaries. I made them for their looks and don’t like the others or just don’t use that weapon. But I’ve got that extra Gift of Exploration just staring at me. :P The appeal of an all-stat, perma-BiS weapon with infusion slot is the main reason for making more Legendaries.
And that’s my main concern: not just the functions now, but later too. A dev answer would be preferred, but I doubt they know at this point. Even if it means I have to split, let the Legendary part upgrade, then retransmute.
Once you transmute a new skin on a legendary you are in deed able to still changes stats I did this with my Kudzu.
As for in the future I don’t think it will be a real problem as we have tranmution spliters.
everyone should fear becoming mentally clouded and obsessed with one small section of truth.

la la la, i can’t hear you, serraphin storm. now i’m gonna be tempted to make another legendary if it can be transmuted.
I’m bumping to confirm this works. Here’s some screens for proof.

Thanks for providing confirmation, Harbinger. But your poor Juggernaut, it’s so fly!
Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead, but it fits here.

After you transmuted it, I assume this metallic look of the armor you get with the Juggernout was gone too?
