First off – anyone heard anything official or otherwise on when we’ll have new Legendary weapons?

But more importantly – I’d like to see a new approach with the next suite of Legendary weapons. I’d love to see some really cool unique sigils and or infusions that come with the next Legendary weapons. I often reference previous MMOs, but I’m thinking back to the EQ days with the weapons that res, give clarity, etc. I’d really like to see something with a really cool proc, or something very unique to the specific weapon. A lightning storm on a bolt type weapon (with an actual animation) or a fear-based proc for a necro staff, or a summon dragon type click/proc for a scepter. I don’t care what it is, but I think it would really add to the questing of the legendary weapons if there was more than just the aesthetic look of the weapon, or footfalls.

Even a new weapon animation that goes with the legendaries would be cool, like a cool finisher animation – think giant slam with a hammer, or huge arcing slice with a greatsword.

I know it’s been debated to death whether or not the Legendary weapons should have better base stats or just a unique skin, so I won’t argue about the base stats, but I think part of the epic nature of having a legendary is having something that others don’t (or few others don’t) and I think it can reach much further than just the aesthetic nature of the weapons.

My two cents, feel free to disagree!

It’s not going to work to give legendary owners some sort of proc / sigil / capability that others can’t get. Visual effects – yes, actual unique game mechanics, never.

I would like to see other 2H legendary weapons get the Eternity treatment: make 2 of the same type of legendary and form them into a super rare 3rd legendary.

It’s pretty unlikely but I would love having another Legendary Hammer to chase…

As a concession to your “legendary sigil” idea, it would be interesting to allow people to add sigils to their legendary to make the sigil become selectable.

3 of the same sigil plus a clover in the MF and you get a legendary version of that sigil that can then be applied to a legendary weapon and included in the selection function.

That would certainly help clear out the market and create a lot more demand even for the “vs Krait” type sigils that are useful only in narrow situations.

The point of a Legendary is not to give players an advantage or capability that other players can’t access.

Yes, you can say that stat selection is a huge advantage, but other players can carry multiple weapons and since you can’t change weapons or stats in combat, the advantage is purely one of convenience.

Whether it’s PVP or WvW, everyone should have access to the same skills and capabilities so that outcomes do not hinge on the use of exclusive abilities.

As someone who has two legendary weapons, I would be absolutely against having extra stats or abilities that others don’t have – it would create way too many problems.

IMO the new legendary weapons should be for the current “joke” legendaries. Like… quip/moot/dreamer. Some people really like them and I can see the appeal… but not everyone wants to spend 1.5k++ on a joke.

Quip and moot also require boxes of fun which is a gem shop item. In the past the dev’s have said they kinda regretted having that be part of the formula (but tbh it’s not as big of a deal now with them being available in the achievement reward boxes).

I would see those 3 as being prime candidates for the new legendaries.

I really hope they didn’t just mean legendary jewelry/armor >.>

Well Dreamslayer, while I disagree with your point, I do understand where you’re coming from; there have been a few long conversations on the forums about legendarys and stats advantages.

I, personally, don’t see the problem, however, with being rewarded with something unique for the amount of effort you put in. Think of raid weapons in games – those (for the most part) are arguably more powerful, or at least have the potential to be, but are rewarded to the few players that can band together to achieve them.

Even if the “uniqueness” of the sigils in the legendary weapons aren’t ones that directly affect the players effectiveness in pvp/pve situations, I think there are opportunities to make something different and unique. Think about the superior runes of the pirate – they allow you to summon a parrot, which, really isn’t an advantage, but it’s something unique.

A throwback: but EQ had no issues with giving their players weapons with truly unique stats that were worthy of an “epic” quest

I don’t remember people being upset about their unique stats as much as in GW2

EQ epics felt more epic to make than legendary. (It was a bit more chaotic to do) I owned swiftwind and earthcaller in EQ and Bolt in GW2. I guess I`m attracted to lighting sword :P

Epics were also class specific and in a system with specific roles for each class. The appropriate gw2 equivalent would not be sigils/weapons, they would instead be class specific skills earned through some other means than just skill points.

What I would seriously enjoy is a new legendary weapon in the form of a great, two-handed battle axe. Something that would arc through the air and cleave limb from limb from foe. Apparently we have the most relevant weapons pretaining to mass destruction on the battle field, but no giant battle axe… This is something I would certainly want in my inventory. I’ve already made the Eternity many months ago, and it has been nicely updated (not perfect), and the Juggernaut, sweet as it looks, is relatively too small in comparison to other hammers for what it should actually look like: much bigger and fiercer. However, whether a battle axe appears or not, I’m partial to a glowing runelike effect (etched in flame?) cutting through air in the same sweeping motion as the greatswords. Procs are cool but I’m not sure that would make me care about the weapon any more or less, and yes, people would be very put out if they could not achieve these particular legendary procs. My 2 cents.
