Well legendaries should take months or years to build … Depends on your play time and play style. I have 1000 hours played in GW 2 and I am slowly done with my juggernaut.

I’m not sure I understand your first sentence.. But, I’m working towards a legendary too. I was lucky enough to get a precursor from the Karka event (Dawn) and sell it to buy The Colossus with about 80g left over. I never even dreamed of having more than 30g at one time, and even so, I still feel so far away from my legendary. I feel like I will never have it, and it’s super discouraging.

All rare weapon drops I get I put into the mystic forge in the hope of getting a precursor.
I want dawn or dusk for legendary, but any precursor will help along the way.

Alongside that I have started to get the items needed for Gift of Mastery and Gift of Fortune.
Still have a little karma to go and about 260 badges of honor before I can make the Gift of Mastery.
For Gift of Fortune I have started to create mystic clovers. I salvage any rare armor drop I get and use the ecto’s to get the clovers. I also save all T6 materials I get for the other half of the recipe.

However, im still very very far away from having a legendary anytime soon.
Since a legendary takes so long time to obtain I went for Norn cultural armor T3, which cost 119g + cost of runes on it. Better to have an awesome armor now than wait til after I get a legendary.

Never got anything more then 3.5g worth, not from chests, not even from forge gambling.
I only need The Legend, worked hard for it and should have it by christmas unless the prices go up by 100g again, then i’ll most probably rage quit.

Same here. Already bought my prec pistol due to the karka event, but still a long way from home. Still sitting at 370k karma, 35 jugs 24 vials of karma, 63 ectos and 3-10 of each t6 mat except dust and bone. Already got the dungeon gift as well was the wvw badges. Also still at 180 skill points and will probably have to level and play with my alt for a number of hours to get the appropriate skill points needed for the clovers. so… yep. If I don’t get bored, I’ll probably finish some time next year, hopefully first quarter. If not, some time next year mid year.

Don’t disturb me, I have a cat in me at the moment.

guys…don’t give up!! I’m in the same boat as most of you. I bought my precursor 12 hours before the Karka event…basically paid double what I should have(my fault; bad luck, whatever you want to call it). I was pretty upset but then I realized, I have fun while looking to complete my legendary. if I rush it, where is my carrot now? for me, this is a long term goal and I like to keep it that way so I have a direction in-game. when it’s done…well I’m sure to find something new to work on.

despite the constant rising prices of all the mats, I just keep in mind that it’s not a race…and if you consider it to be one, it is merely a race against your impatient self(we are all impatient by nature I would say).

getting the legendary is not what’s important here. it’s the entire process..minus the cost of the precursor, I’d say the whole effort is worthwhile and if you have no qualms about using the TP, then not too grindy. those ‘purists’ with self imposed rules about having to farm everything themselves, well that’s their own problem.

now if only I didn’t want to create new lvl 80’s every month I’d probably be done by now but I’m having fun and that’s what matters….I mean I just rolled a new lvl 80 guard when I already have one just for aesthetics. call me crazy, but no complaints here

If I had known that the price of t6 mats would increase this much I would have bought them first. But I went for my icy runestone first since their price stays the same no matter what. Now the final item I need gift of fortune, the price of making it has more than doubled. Wish I would have started on it first :P.

Those who have legendaries already spent alot of their time farm for them instead of having fun. The person who created the eternity in the first 2months farm +10hr a day during that time. Precursors are cheaper but the price of everything esle for a legendary has increased. If you think about it that way the total cost of a legendary really has not changed much. Even though player can by cheaper precursors.

It’s alright guys – take your time with it because the journey should feel every bit as epic as the outcome. Racing to get your legendary finished will leave you burnt out and probably will make you want to quit before you’ve finished it (I know this is a bit of a generalization but in the beginning this almost happened to me until I decided to slow down a bit)

I started off with the Gift Of Fortune because I wanted to get the RNG aspect of the clovers out of the way… and boy was I in for a nasty suprise hahaha I was extremely relieved when that part was over and I could begin working on the other sub-components. The Gift Of Might & Magic was a lot cheaper to make back then because there wasn’t a lot of recipes that required T6 materials (thank goodness – because if I had of done the Gifts of Might & Magic now the price would be much more expensive so in hind sight that was the right decision)

If you have enough bank space – to make things less tedious you can work on sub sub components in smaller stages and this is also something that I did too. Daily continual progress will see you reach your destination. Persevere and the victory will feel sweet in the end. Good luck!

Azelroth is completely correct in my opinion. Too much of today is about instant gratification and obsessional goal achievement that I think the pleasure in the journey is being left by the wayside. I don’t see myself ever managing a legendary so I have set my aim to get Volcanus as I feel it is more attainable and try to set myself little daily targets. I can then enjoy WvW or instance runs etc without that sense of “wasted Volcanus hunting time” impacting on my experience.

The satisfaction when you guys get it should be all the sweeter and hopefully you’ll still be enthused about Guild Wars enough to really enjoy your shiny toy!

What is totally wrong about legendaries is a fact that if you have gold, then you basically have about 80% of a legendary. If not the gold I would have my legendary already (I got karma, tokens, badges and everything else). I have spend over 600h in game and I still need about 500g for Bolt. I thought that legdaries should display the experience in game and time spend on creating it, not just the owners wealth…

i’m slowly working towards it too. i believe most of us who are on a track towards a legendary will be taking their time. just don’t lose heart! : ))) just don’t feel it’s less special because other people have it already. you know what you’re working towards and what you’ve put into it. and that moment when ya get it ; )))

take your time. no need to rush. i am more.. playing the game, and the stuff i get, will contribute towards my legendary making. : )))

Mastery of Gold is arguably the biggest challenge in any MMO. As such it was an obvious choice as a gate to hinder people obtain legendaries. If the gold costs were low I’d have 3 legendaries now – instead I have Bolt and 2million karma.

I know gold costs upset many but its a tried and tested method for making weapons difficult to acquire. Legendaries are easier to acquire these days because gold costs are lower on a whole and karma is more readily available. That being said even though you need 200-300 gold less to make some legendaries you still need upwards of 400-500g to make most of them which is still a significant effort.

Obtaining a legendary is still one of the hardest achievements within the game – as it should be. This is a long term goal. Many players are arguing that the finish line is way too far and the obstacles are too great to jump over – I think otherwise. The obstacles are the same for all of us.

Yes, there is an element of luck involved (i.e. Mystic Forge). However, this is all part of the game. A player may have some luck at one point, while another at another point while progressing towards obtaining a legendary.

People always have a choice. They just tend to choose the simplest anwser.

Well yep.. A long time.. For best in-game item.. It is NORMAL.. I got my legendary yesterday. Reason being, i was grinding for it since game came out. Crafted my own precursor, and only thing that was missing were a few bloods and totems, and the 250 shards (those alone took me 3 weeks). And I didnt foresee the price hike in T6 due to:
1. Loads of precursors were handed out to satisfy the unquenchable thirst of the jealous and spoiled.
2. New ascended backpiece requires 250x T6 mat.
3. Bot Ban Hammer.

I am extremely happy I got my legendary yesterday, that being said, I also would not have minded if it took me another 4-6 months. In Aion it took 6-8 months of grinding to get best Bow in game….IF YOU WERE lucky, cuz the craft was RNG.

Take my advice…. please stop wasting your time on forums asking really really (excuse the term) dumb questions.. And have fun in game, work your way towards your legendary, at YOUR OWN PACE.

You’ll have it one day, if you set your mind to it, and work towards it, you WILL have it. You don’t NEED it now.. its just a skin. Your lack of legendary at this very moment isn’t impairing your ability to have fun in game.

If you are not a hardcore player (or very very lucky) this will take you a long time, and that’s because ANet intended getting legendaries to take at least a few months or even a year.

Personally I have my [Bolt] finished, doing only WvW & trading on the Tradingpost to get the gold needed. (I am quite good at playing the TP. I like spreadsheets.)

I’m currently working on my [Juggernaut] which is also about 70% done. Gotta do another character with map completion after that, which will be the one factor slowing me down again.

I now only play about 2~4 hours during the week, just got up to a 100 gold. I’m already about 500 hours in. I’ve given up on the precursor for now and have started getting everything else first. The legendary weapon will take a lot of time and money to make. The 250 ecto, 100 lodestone and 100 Icy Runestones are going to be very costly. Of the T6 mats I have 4 at 250. Farming blood for 1 hour a day gives me about 2 to 4, so yeah it’s going to take time. Also working on clovers, I’ve gotten 66 clovers so far, so that’s almost done. Made the gift of metal yesterday, so that’s done. Seeing as I have 0 skill points atm getting 200 SP for the Bloodstone Shard is going to take a while. The same with 250 Obsidian Shards. Also need another 280 WvW badges.

So yeah, next year I’ll have it. If I get my hands on a precursor or else it will be another 200~300 gold farm. Lost a lot of money trying to gamble at the forge for it, won’t do that again.

When I had started on my legendary I thought the largest hurdle was the karma, but with the introduction of FotM the karma requirements dropped significantly. Just doing the FotM daily has put me close to 1k fractals on top of a whole lot of karma I already had.

Now with the introduction of FotM and the ascended back pieces, plus the crafted infusions; mats for the legendary have sky rocketed (at least t6 and ectos).

On the plus side, core prices have come down because FotM yields a variety of decent cores. But ultimately as a person crafting a legendary you are either going to spend a lot of gold, or a lot of skill points. This is the beginning of a larger trend, and I do not see prices coming down in the near future.

I suggest grinding as many fractals as you can as often as you can and using the cheapest salvage kit(they still create ectos) on everything rare or higher, or throw stuff into the mystic forge to get a chance upgrading until you get a chance at a precursor.

Aside from badges of honor and whatever dungeon gift you need, FotM has everything you need to create a legendary.

Mats are so expensive now it is cheaper to grind FotM get a bunch of random T5 mats and craft level 80 gear then salvage it for a chance at ectos.

Also the drop rate on armored scales is pretty high in the water fractal, powerful venom from the jade maw fractal, powerful blood from bats in the grawl fractal and harpies, totems from grawl and norn etc… So you may want to state upfront to your FotM group that you want to kill everything.

I suggest being patient, do some WvW and run some dungeons, use the mats you get wisely, including the gold and it shouldn’t take long. Unfortunately for me I keep getting side tracked, especially with these crafted infusions, and now I am spending another 20g on a new rune set after having spent a lot gold last week changing it prior >.<
