I’m thinking about working on a legendary but I hate the way every single one of them looks. And I see no use in having Soldier attributes which means I want them 100% for the BIS going forward factor.

You’ll also see more Legendary items in the future and an update to our existing Legendary weapons. Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power.

I cant find the answer to my main question anywhere on the forums after searching for some time I suppose my first question is, Is this quote still true as far as we know? It’s been some time since then and things change in development all the time.

My main question is about transmuting. I would be getting my legendary, to transmute the stats I want using a second weapon but also transmuting the look I want from another weapon. Would this keep legendary status? Do any of the non weapon based effects like footprints carry over? What about upgrading to ascended? (I think only a dev can answer that)

Basically I want to know if I can make any current weapon in the game into a legendary that will keep its BIS quality as the game goes forward. If not then the legendary weapons are just not for me. Has anyone transmuted a legendary weapon to have a different skin? All I see are people transmuting stats, not the skin itself.

Thanks guys.

You can always do some experiment with exotics and rares to see what the result is from that. But I doubt it’s doable even with several transmutes.
If you are not after the skin of exotics, it’s a lot of work for getting something you don’t like.
Better sit tight for the ascended weapons with your desirable stats on it. (whenever that is) As that will probably be way easier to obtain and you can max out on a exotic weapon in the mean while ( on par with current legendary).
Nobody will know that you have a legendary or not if it does not have the look and you don’t link it.
So don’t go for a legendary if you do that to save yourself work (grind).

If you’re transmuting another weapon’s look onto the legendary, you’ll lose all visual effects (skin, footprints, aura, etc.). Stat-wise I’m not sure if it would keep legendary status, as I really haven’t seen someone do this before. The question about whether transmuted legendaries will be upgraded has been asked countless times before without answer. It’s likely the devs won’t even know until they start building the framework and/or implement the change.

I think it’s very likely that ascended gear will remain the highest tier and infusions will just get better and better so Arenanet can satisfy the gear-grind crowd and the casuals simultaneously without the huge uproar that came with ascended. If that becomes the case, I’d suggest you skip out altogether on getting the legendary and just work for the ascended weapons when they come out, as they will surely be much less of a grind.

No offense, but that’s a horrible idea. While ascended weapons may be hard to get, I doubt they’d be harder to get than a legendary, so you’d just be wasting time, money, and a perfectly good legendary.

It’s hard to say because a year ago there was going to be no vertical gear grind at all. Now we have 1 tier. Who’s to say that in 4+ years from now there wont be more vertical gear expansion. If getting a legendary means 100% BIS for the life of the game, well that’s worth it for me even if the skin is meh. Sadly no one seems to know if this is true or not.

Thanks guys. I’ll keep collecting offhandedly for now then.

In normal transmutations the items name color is that of the item that provides the stats, legendaries are the exception this. regardless if your regardless if you transmute stats over or transmute a skin over the name will always be purple. HOWEVER in the case of transmuting the skin all footprints, sounds, sparkles are tied to the original skin. so if you transmute the skin you will lose all those effects.

I have a guildmate who got annoyed by his quip sound and transmuted pact weapon over it ( saddens me because i love that quip sound). I agree its dumb to make spend all that time to make a legendary only to cover it with a cheaper skin, but in the case of my guild mate he made the bolt barely 2 months later >_> keeps finding the exact precursor he needs lmao.

unless your loading with gold/ get t6 mates like nothing i would save them for a possiable future legendary they release into the game that you may like.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but is having a weapon with ascended stats really worth 1000g+ to you? When ascended weapons come out, you will be able to access them someway or another, whether through fractal relics or laurels or gold. It’s a good bet that the effort to get an ascended weapon will be nowhere near the effort to get a legendary. So it seems like you’re saying that you want to spend 1000g or more on a normal looking, exotic stat weapon so that you get a free upgrade to ascended stats when it comes out, rather than spending a day or a week earning the ascended weapon itself upon release.

No, transmuting period replaces the items connotation from legendary to transmuted.
What you are asking is if you can transmute a legendary, not select any of the legendary parts and wonder if it will give the exotic you choose “legendary” status. This will probably end very badly.
