Leveling Huntsman from 450-500
Are you using a crafting guide? Either way, huntsman is going to be fairly pricey (just like the others) because of the cost of materials and inscriptions (if you follow guides).
Yeah following a guide for sure. O well im this close. Ill just save some more spare gold and keep on till 500. Its pretty pricey for a casual player.
There’s no way it should be costing 80g to get that far…
What are you doing to level? Fastest way to level from 400-500 is to discover exotic recipes. Each one of those nets you ~2-3 levels.
Even if you bought absolutely everything, gw2crafts.net estimates a cost of 107g to get from 400-500 in Huntsman, but even with casual play, you can save yourself some of the cost by keeping any t6 mats you get, and salvaging blue/green/rare gear drops for mats. No idea how it took you 80g to get 33 levels, unless you’re not discovering recipes or something and literally just trying to craft the same pieces over and over.

I know this isn’t much use to you now, but from 450 to 470 I craft the ascended materials that I will need to make most of what I want. It’s a lot slower, but give that I will need to make the materials anyway it works out to be far more cost effective.
EDIT: Also, craft just before WvW resets if you are going to do a lot at once.
Total cost from 450-500 was 100g
it was all discovery btw
you should be able to find items that you can sell for enough that you don’t loss too much money.
eg if an item cost 3 gold to craft and you sold it for 2 gold, you really only lost 1 gold.
It cost me about 100g as well to get from 400-500. though a good 25 levels of that was via ascended mats (bloodstone/empyreal/dragonite)
maybe it’s because I’ve been farming for a legendary, but it doesn’t feel too bad to me. I enjoyed doing it, though I semi regret it (I got 500 huntsman specifically and only for an ascended longbow, but now i’m only a precursor away from kudzu so maybe it would have been better if I didn’t was all that money :P)
My net cost was near zero as I only crafted when I had mats and always crafted the items that had the best sell prices on TC. In fact, I would go so far to say that all my crafting to ascended has been profitable.
Zerk stat gear will always bring back in gold. A full set of zerk stat weaponry/armour should net you between 30-50g depending on the state of the TC. This will always recoup the cost of buying the thermocatalytic reagents. Ori and Ancient wood are the biggest problems usually, but they now drop so regularly from salvage that this should mitigate it. If you’re consistent with crafting the capped items everyday, again this should be net zero when you compare it to how much silver you should be bringing from regular play.
Personally, I avoid buying mats off the TC unless I’m a small handful of components left. I did weaponsmith and armoursmith the same way. Finished up huntsman last week and working on leatherworker and artificer atm.
Spacing out crafting over the long run is very good for long term profitability.
You can buy weapons/armor from dungeon vendors with the following stats to salvage and then gain the inscription:
- Dire (CTV) from CoE.
- Magi’s (HPV) from AC, TA, HotW.
- Rabid (CPT) from CM, TA, HotW, Arah.
- Shaman’s (VCH) from CM.
- Soldier’s (PTV) from AC, SE, HotW.
Saves up some gold and gives use to the dungeon tokens, after crafting the item I simply sell it, easy trick I’m using to level the professions.

450-475 is nothing but converting ascended materials, no cost involved except the reagents. 475-500 is at most 16 exotic pieces, not very expensive, not even close to 80G in material. Think before you believe everything you read. I have all currently available crafters at 500, and spent less than 50G across all of them.
Toxic Maintenance Oil is also an option. I think it gives xp up to 490, and gives you something to do with bloodstone dust.
it was all discovery btw
Did you craft any ascended materials or just discover?
