Q:
Magic find and fine crafting materials
All drops directly from enemies are affected by MF. Having more MF will increase your chances of getting crafting materials.
I do not believe damage plays a role other than whether you get credit for the kill or not.
If a mob drops a crafting mat for you, your mf determines the chances for you to get a higher tier crafting mat.
Creatures in Southsun Cove for example are all lvl 80 and drop tier 5 or 6 mats.
Everytime you get a crafting mat from killing a creature, the mf roll will determine, if you get a t5 or t6 mat.
More DPS leads to more kills per hour, so when you are farming trash mobs, you get more drops.
So in a general sense, DPS determines the quantity of the loot, mf determines the quality of the loot.

I would like to open this question again because MF really depends on DPS and it is not fair for all support classes.
I know somebody, who has a warrior with over 150 MF and finds a lot of exo items and another my friends plays with a necro (support), also over 150 MF, and finds just green and blue items, sometimes yellow and once per month or two, one exo item.
So Anet, please change it so it is fair to everybody. Not just somebody.

Every class has a dps option. Some are better than others true, but a zerker necro traited right will do easily more damage than a tanky warrior. The major factor in dps is your build, and I f you are playing as a support build then you should be playing with others (which incidentally means more loot as two can kill faster than one).

Still that doesn’t mean that DPS affect MF or the quality of drops at all.

The DPS doesn’t affect anything except whether you tag a mob or not and a Necromancer, even supporty build, has plenty of options to tag (just like any class though some more than others.) Magic Find is a factor, but luck still plays a role. I have friends with 100% less Magic Find consistently getting better drops than me as PTV and defensive builds opposed to me as Zerker.
No game including RNG will be ‘fair to everybody’ it’s just impossible.

So I have a Warrior who has over 150 MF and an Ele support friend who also have over 150 MF. Both of them have been getting exotics every now and then. So i guess that is enough to justify something.
So in this case, this luck must hate my friend :-x
