Why are so many of the materials for ascended weapons account bound?
This is probably the first topic I have posted here after playing the game for nearly a year so pardon me if I am ignorant. I have attained mastercrafter and have a level 500 huntsman with a weaponsmith on the way. I made my first ascended weapon today. I enjoy this aspect of the game but find it difficult from the basis of my question above.
My wife and I are in a guild of two (just us) and she has a lot of the mats to make ascended weapons but cannot give them to me so I can make her one. We are mature in age (not in mind thank goodness) (I am 63) and have been gaming a long time. We have put an amount of real cash into the game buying gems to do various things – I suppose $A300 by now.
We have not done any dungeons as we have never been able to get into a party so we are missing out on various things of course.
The dragonite ore is the hardest to collect as not many seem to play the big bosses where the drops are better. I seem to spend my days just farming , finding chests and doing small bosses. I use the Boss tracker but when I go to the area, rarely find anyone else.
I don’t expect it to be easy but why does it have to be this hard and tedious?

Well I just confirmed my ignorance when I saw the post that crafted ascended weapons are account bound. My wife is dreadfully disappointed too. What a drag! I feel my oldtimers coming to the fore again. :-)

Some of the materials are not account bound such as when you craft a Deldrimor steel ingot or Spirtwood plank or Spool of Thick Elonian Cord. You could help each other out by crafting those items and figuring out who is going to use them. But that would still mean the other must get to 500 to actually craft the item so that doesn’t solve your problem completely. Plan on your next weapon or armor carefully and plan which of you will craft it vs who will supply what they can.
As for the Dragonite ore I really don’t see that you should have much of a problem with that if you are doing many of the bosses (especially temples). If you are going to these places and no one is there you need to do your PVE on another server. You can guest to another server to do your farming and actually have people complete these events.
Thank you for your response. My wife has only a level 400 Jeweler unfortunately so she will be unable to craft those things unless she starts from square one. As I said I hoped to make them for her.
Guesting to another server is a good idea – I will try that. I have done it once just to have a look.

not sure which tracker you use, i like using this site to check which events are active on which worlds: gw2stuff
you can do the same for NA and EU worlds. I’m on SoR and usually i check, BG, JQ and TC – the more populated servers which i know are always actively doign world events. temples would yield the most – 30 dragonite ore! while some of the higher level world bosses i’ev seen up to 24 ores. i’ve gotten zilch on some starter level map bosses (Shadow Behemoth, Frozen Maw, etc.. but always fun to do still).

and good luck with the crafting of ascended weapons for both you and your wife. the best i’d say is plan ahead and slowly work your way towards it, while playing other parts of the game.

you should realy guest on a higher populated server with your wife and check on gw2stuff the events – you can farm them easy and with nearly no downtime and so you both have dragonite very fast more than you ever can use
1 temple event give 30
for the empyrial fragments i would suggest you both jump over your shadows^^ and trie to cool new lfg tool and go cof p1 – you cant do anything wrong there
you find the lfg tool top left when click on friendlist
check it – its rly easy and fast and you can do cof p1 per character 2x in 6-10 mins per run and you get always 20 empyrial fragments + other things
any maaaaby you and your wife will even have fun with this ^^
