Mining (using it for Armorsmithing)
No training is needed. Each tier of ore, wood and harvesting has a specific level of pick, axe, or sickle. You will need to be at least the level of the tool in order to use it. Each tool also provides a description of what types of node it can be used on.
Great, thanks! Would you also know where I’d purchase a pick from? Just ant TP?

Pretty much any merchant in the zone you’re doing the mining…
“Flush” the WoW experience out of your head. Crafting and resource gathering in GW2 bears very little resemblance.
One thing to keep in mind, higher level pics can always mine lower level ore, so keep your picks up to the max level you can equip and you generally don’t have to worry about tapping a node and realizing that you have the wrong pick equipped.
If you tap a node with too low level of a pick, you’ll get back ‘ruined ore’… you can sell it for a few copper, but it still counts as hitting the node, so you may lose the opportunity of getting what you wanted out of that node.
Some people keep old picks to swap to in lower level zones to be ‘more efficient’ about not using a more expensive pick on a cheaper node…. but I see those people swearing when they realize they’ve still got their copper pick equipped and they tapped an Orichalcum node :P
