Just out of curiosity is anyone having extra luck with a specific lvl and stat combination of items which you throw into mystic forge for precursors. Like four lvl 75 exotic berserker or 4 lvl 80 rare rampager or something like that. Even if there’s one I don know if anyone is willing to share but as i mentioned I’m just curious.

There is no trick as far as we know, if there is then the people who know it are going to keep it close to their chest to keep the prices up.

Apparently the odds are when 4 rares of L80 are flushed:
20% return of an exotic
0.3% for a precursor

Named weapons makes no difference either, nor does type.

These odds will apply if its your 1st try or your 50979th so just because you have been on an unlucky streak does not mean your closer to getting it.

What that guy said. The conclusion is: It is vastly more preferable to save up the dosh and just buy one when it goes cheap(er).

I got my precursor after throwing something like 900 shortbows into the forge. And that’s at or below the average number of tries, from the posts I’ve seen.

I’m just going to straight up buy The Legend now, though. Second time around it’s not worth kitten into the toilet.

I tryed more than 1000 rares in Forge and no precursor, I go www the other night and I am on inner walls when the rest of the zerg is at Lord room fighting for capture the bay.One asura elementalist coming up the stairs and we start 1v1 on the walls ,I kill him and try to loot the badges….the Zap…….from a player in www and yes i have a print screen……..so far www better chances for precursors lol….

I got 2 drops in Wv3 already.

Zap was the best. After 4 hours of roaming, I go vendor and see those three orange letters :-D.

Rare into MF make you run twice the RNG, first RNG chance to get an exo, second RNG on this exo create chance that it’s a precursor… Cheaper and more chance overal with exo than rare (4rare has 1/16 to make an exotic; not saving money but just making harder to get a legendary that way, imo.) Funny, I dumped 100g worth of exotic staves into the forge and got nothing valuable back. Isn’t RNG great!

Just save your cash and buy wait for a price drop. We have to stop supporting this terrible game mechanic.

I will stick with rares tbh. When I throw 12 rares worth roughly 2.7g (or nothing if i craft/drop them myself) I usually get at least 1 exo back which is sold for 2 to X amount of gold. So in the long run I come out even or sometimes with decent profit.

For example: today I bought 10 rare swords for 2.5g, crafted 12 another and ended up with over 14g back. Almost got heart attack while checking Preview on exos I got when I saw a sword which looked like Zap but it was only Crystalline Blade.

In general if you are dumping 4 Exos into the forge usually you end up with 1 exo which in 99% of cases is worth 1/4 of exos put in (I assume u dump the cheapest ones). So it is at least 8g lost with each try to gain 2g. With rares u dump 1g worth of rares and may get at least 2g back or loose “only” 75s.

IMHO rares win this gamble.

I’m officially done excreting money in the mystic forge. Saved up and bought my Tooth of Frostfang in the end. I could have bought another precursor with the amount of money I’ve flushed down Zomorros. Very irritating.

Solid advice is generally not to bother.

I’ve done a ridiculous amount of exotics and rares. Exotics see your money disappear faster, but there’s nothing as depressing as putting in a hundred rare greatswords and not getting one exotic back even.

My2 cents:
Throwed around 700 Greatswords (rares) in the MF (for the same amount i spent into crafting and buying them, i would have got Dawn off the TP xD) right yestarday, all i got been.. 24 exotics swords, most often the exo crafted versions, an unmentionable amount of gold lost and that’s about it

Save up and buy off the TP.

Honestly, I’ve been trying to do this in a way that costs no money whatsoever.

Step 1: Run dungeons
Step 2: Use tokens to buy four shields
Step 3: Place shields in MF
Step 4: If Precursor, SUCCESS!
Step 4B: If other exotic, SELL!
Step 5: ???
Step 6: Profit

Imo buying them off the tp is not acceptable answer to the problem. Why? you might ask…Well if everyone saved up and bought them off the tp, there simply wouldn’t be enough. Thus at some point it would not be an option at all.

He means precursor, and his post isn’t accurate even then. There’s a one in five chance of getting an exotic out of four (level 80) rares. So if you can get 5 rares for the price of one exotic (which is typically true), the rares are better.

Yes I meant Legendary’s precursors.
And like someone said previously the no cost way is to farm dungeon badges in orders to buy QL80 dungeons rewards exo weapons X4 to drop in the MF.

Just wasted all my money (750 rares) in MF… Recieved 49 exotics, which were also thrown into MF and… nothing lol. I’m giving up till scavenger hunt.

What I am doing is farming pent/shelter/jofast. Tons of Mithril and sacs. I only use the excess mithril and sacs to make rare great swords to throw in the forge. So instead of losing money I make slightly less. I guess you could also salvage for ectos to sell also doing this.

In the 6 months ive been playing ive thrown atleast 1k GS into the forge in order to get dawn, so far ive only had random exotics.. mainly “pearl”.

Tried many weapons also for varies off-hands i may want and still no luck beyond a few basic exotics.

Its all one big gamble, sometimes you win sometimes you lose. I usually lose and my brother always wins.. he’s had 4 pre-cursors in 1 week using around 80g. Dusk twice from less then 100 GS then The Legend from 16 staffs and finally onto Spark from under 50 daggers.

I wonder, why they just can’t make real drop rate… They are going to make scavenger hunt, which means, that everyone will be able to get precursor. Someone will use it, another will sell it(if they won’t be soul/account bound). This is thousands of weapons… It’s obvious, that prices will just crash. In that case, Anet, why you just can’t make more realistic drop rate unit scavenger hunt is ready? I don’t think, it would be a great problem for economy if precursors cost 100-200 gold for example(actually many of them did so after karka event). I’m trying to make bolt and I spent about 1k gold for gifts, and now I just can’t farm any more for zap, which is 450g. That will just make me hate pve. I tried MF(750 rares), I did a lot of dragon events – still no luck. Ok, if increasing drop rate doesn’t seam acceptable for you, can you make the process less random? For example drop 1000 rares into MF, of kill 100/200/whatever world bosses to get a guarantied precursor. Or another suggestion: with every opened chest/weapon thrown into MF you get +0,1%(or whatever reasonable percentage) chance for precursor, and when you finally get it the chance become 0 and you can start from the beginning, if you like. Anet, please, make a small patch before the scavenger hunt, or tell us if it’s coming soon or not. I hope you will read this cry of my soul…

Currently i am at 508 rares (19 exo back) and 1408 exotics, no precursor yet.

ill give u my recent luck. this last week I have tried the forge twice, once today and once 5 days ago. added up I dumped about 600g into the forge and I have gotten……….

I’m glad you said that because I’m going to take those words to heart. After I got lucky with Zap, I finished up map completion and gathered all the lodestones immediately. I was left with just a few silver left. I realized all I need now are tier 6 mats gift of might and magic. So I sold everything in my bank, came up to about 30 gold and then proceeded to waste it all on the mystic forge in the hope of getting lucky again to buy the tier 6 mats I need. I’m done with the mystic forge. I lost 12 gold this morning on it and I wanted to cry because it was all I had, and I could have bought 40 powerful bloods with it.

I wish you the best luck, be smart, collect what you miss. Then, maybe soon, a legendary waits you.
The only gamble you miss i guess is clovers. Be patient, is just a matter of time.
Don’t rush, plan it efficently, stay far from the mystic toilet until clovers are the last part missed. Talking about it, if you miss T6 mats, do the clovers. If you don’t get a clover, you get maybe T6 mats you need (or something you can sell, making money).

On clovers: I don’t know if this is accurate but, I went to the MF once per day, did the 10 recipe each time ONCE PER DAY. And got clovers every time. May be something to try?

I play every day and after 1 week, I’m lucky if I have say 10g. I ‘invest’ my money in TP trading for a small profit. Other than that just PvE looting of regular events etc.

After trying to get a celestial pet in gw1 I don’t ever gamble. I got more than enough ticket things statistically to get one but nope no celestial animal for me. My friend got three so needless to says I was less then pleased. same friend just threw some random rares in to get something to sell and got a precursor…. He felt kinda bad but at the same time it isn’t his fault he was lucky.

Simple. Farm cof+AC for a few days, turbo runs. Use tokens buying rares to create from thin air some ectos. Sell them. Sell every mat you get during those runs. Destroy rares dropped for more ectos to be sold or sell them as is, up to you. Exotics? Sell them. You will discover in a few weeks you made the money you need.
If instead you’re planning to double your cash, observe the TP, and start to powersell scamming around. For example buying 500g of mats, buying all the reserve of a mat, then resell them on packed stocks at YOUR minimum price (so you can still lead and make money if the smart of the day attempt to lower the price, buying immediately his mats reselling again at your price). Will be the new price, you will double the income. This is how the precursor scam is working. Buying and reselling them at double price, few days later. Clearly, who want to play something like precursors must have way more than 600g. Just a matter of time, working like a sheep (read carefully the word “working”) for your goal to be rich, and you will be.
Question is: don’t you have nothing else better on your life to do than waste your brain resources and lifetime on this stupid way of play, for the mmo of the month soon replaced by great mmos incoming?
I wonder how you will feel when soon TESO will be online and 85% of your guild moved out asap. (Assuming you’re 18+). All your time wasted… for…?

Lucas you over exaggerate now. Gw2 its not only the legendary and of course the game will not empty. If anyones choice was to farm then it was his fault. And you cant play the tp with all the items in there. There are specific things you can power sell and with a danger to lose instead of make money

Personally I think you’re overselling TESO. I’ve heard the claim “X mmo is gonna kill everything when it comes out” and usually it holds true for about a month, then it becomes the same ole same ole and people go back to their old mmo…..

I haven’t kept a record on how much stuff I’ve fed Zommoros with (on purpose, as I really don’t want to know) but I went the slow but steady route when gambling for my precursor, and last night I got mine;
- Batches of 16 lvl 80 crafted rare hammers whenever I had enough materials for it
- All lvl 80 greens went into the mystic forge for a possible rare upgrade and green armor was paired with a green underwater weapon for a chance to be upgraded to a rare weapon
- All rare armor (and sub-80 weapons) got salvaged for the ectos and runes/sigils
- All lvl 80 rare weapons went into the mystic forge

I think I might continue doing this, minus crafting rare hammers, since it’s been working out OK for me (I’m not stinking rich but I’m not poor either). I have a metric crapton of leather and silk stored up so I might craft armor for ecto salvaging whenever i have the T5 materials for it.

I guess my best advice, if you’re going the gambling route for your precursor, is to not overdo it. Only spend what you can live with losing.

Well that’s not true. This game would have been a king now and for long with a superb success, if the company didn’t ruin everything with bugged patches, karka’s event, various scams during festivities, etc etc etc.
TESO has superb graphic, a promise of huge battles, a great lore , a huge fanbase.
What is needed? A company listening the playerbase , an active forum where the community is truly able to communicate with the dev team, release cleaned patches (and if new bugs will pop, fix them quickly, 24 hours later), an active support team (ingame too if possible), don’t release near the final launch fake videos of something will not work at all ingame (like the huge battles we are talking about), don’t make an other casino (like the mystic toilet the best way to get a precursor, no special tricks or combinations as we explained, enjoy , OP) and many more.
Basically the exact opposite of everything is gw2 about management will be a guaranteed success lol
