I just wanted to share my experience to serve as a warning for those players who might be considering using their skill points to make a quick buck from crafting mystic weapons.. About 400 hrs into gw2 I figured that I was never going to try to craft a legendary weapon. It just seemed too out of reach for me at the time. So over the next 200 hrs I bought 3 Eldritch scrolls, crafted 3 mystic weapons, kept one and sold 2 for around 15g.. As time went on I found myself accumulating lots of the items I needed for legendary, got map completion etc do I thought “you know what? I’m going for it” so my journey began.. I ended up in the spot where I had everything I needed for my frostfang, including the precursor.. But still needed 115 skl pts for the bloodstone shard.. A month or so of grinding has got me down to 25 left.. But what I’m trying to say is even if you’re not too set on the legendary grind, if you envision yourself playing on for some time then it might be wise to hang on to those skill points cos they’re a real pain in the kitten to grind through if you need as many as I did

Or since the other parts of the Gift of Mastery are account bound, create/use an alt to complete all the skill challenges. I recently did this for my Anomaly (requires the same Bloodstone Shard) for my elementalist by completing all the skill challenges on my ranger alt.
WvW is also a huge source of xp during primetime hours when everything’s flipping.
Kinda wish I’d thought of that a month ago.. Lol
you can get an additional 2 or 3 skillpoints for a daily fractal run I believe (you can buy them for tokens).
I agree.
This is why I keep telling people to not waste their karma on stupid little orrian boxes.
Karma is ridiculously easy to accumulate when you’re not spending it.
But when you need it bad, it can take a long time to collect it.
What? It’s ridiculous easy to acquire SP. Just do the events, the world events every day and some x4 runs on cof P1, and use a XP booster maybe, they are dropping like rain with those new achiev chests. You gain a lot of XP from doing events, not just the world ones, and from dungeons. What is really hard to acquire in this game is gold.

See how long it takes you to gather up 200 skill points.
It is incredibly long, especially when you have everything but the skillpoints to complete a legendary.

Sorry, but, if you have everything to craft a legendary, even the freaking precursor, 200 SP for the bloodshard is nothing compared to the insane amount of T6 mats you need for the legendary or the precursor.

I kind of agree. It isn’t difficult as such to acquire the skill points, the ways you stated are the best methods to gain them as quick as possible yet still it’s taken over a month to gain 100. It was hard to get the gold for the precursor, t6 mats and 200 lodestone too but with some TP flipping and a bit of luck it can be done. The point I was making is simply that if I had have committed to the legendary crafting earlier on before spending the skill points then I would have had my legendary a month ago and could have been spending this time leveling another toon.
Run cof path 1 profit?
OP isn’t saying it’s hard to get SPs or complaining in the slightest sense, he’s merely saying that don’t spend your skillpoints just because you don’t have anything to spend it on. there’s no harm it saving them up, IN CASE, one day you are wanting to go for a legendary.
i can relate. i got my first legendary. and then i was like whew, dont with that, never gonna do it again. i spent a TON of skillpoints on eldritch scrolls, upgrading siege, etc.. and now, i decided to go for a second one. i have everything for rodgort, except for another 150 skillpoints. XDD whereas if i didn’t spend my SP for the sake of spending them, i could go craft it right now.
unless, if you really like certain weapons but again, you can always buy them on the TP, if they’re not crazy overpriced.
Right on akamon, good to know I’m not the only one who did it backwards lol.. And after reading your post I think I’m going to keep saving skill points/karma on my next toon just in case I get the itch to build a 2nd legendary too.. Although after this first ones crafted I’m gonna take a little break from grinding and play more for fun again.. Legendary crafting sure takes it out of you
there ya go ; )) definitely save up. i actually have plans for 3rd and 4th maybe. but will be mainly through regular playing the game and not grindy mcgrindfest. if looking at it from a “i’ll get it when i get it” perspective, or “this game is so much fun i’m gonna play the crap out of it and OH hey a legendary weapon as a bonus for playnig the game? sweet!” type of mindset, i don’t even cringe at the thought of doing world completion again.. wait. lol
yea i played for fun and did whatever for a long time before going for a 2nd legendary. and even then, it’s kinda like you said, you jsut kinda got all the mats in place bit by bit.
and good luck! ; )) it’s definitely soemthing to craft our first legendary.

It took me 2 days..
1.) Make alt, craft to 40. Roughly 20 left after skills are obtained.
2.) start in starter zones, begin gathering every sp in every map, no need to complete the map just get the sps.
3.) Buy the blood stone.
Also I see no reason to not buy orri boxes since you can make gold and get obby shards. With 1.5m karma you can buy the 250 needed with 500k then boxes with the rest and that should net you another 100-150 sure if your rng is bad you could use all of them and not get enough clovers, but with the gold gained from the boxes it should cover the cost of ectos and coins for the recipes.
I’ve already surpassed the 1k skill point mark. I have 2 toons sitting on close to 200 each and another in around 50. I’ve spent a lot of those SPs.. It does take a good month to get 200 if you really just go all out for them. I’m sure it would suck if that’s all you need however. Pretty good advice i’d say, holding out on spending those points. Regardless, I’m still making the Anomaly for my mesmer
I have more freaking extra skill points after only 5 months of consistent playtime on this than I had left over from 5 years of GW1. …and this is only on my Ranger and I don’t even like ranger right now. And I don’t know where they came from! I don’t grind dungeons all day… I’m only 2/3’s done with full Exploration. I do temples once a night and that’s it as far as killing things goes.
I agree that 50 SP’s isn’t worth the measely price that Mystic Weaps fetch.
I can make more money than that every night just picking HERBS
But yeah like Mun said… There’s obviously some methods to getting them faster.
I think fractals is the fastest way, 35 fractal relics = 1 skill point. You will also get a good amount of karma, and even 1 core or lodestone if you are lucky.

Ask me mate, ask me :-D.
I am dying here with 130 skillpoints left and I sure wont create another alt.
4 Legendaries ate up 1600 Skillpoints. so starting one from 0 Skp is pain ITA :-D.
After making my Bolt I still have almost 500 SPs on my Thief. SPs are really easy to “grind” .
After making one legendary, I had those too…
heh, understatement for you, Zumy!! rooting for you though. haha ANet upped the challenge for you too with potential new legendaries! XPP
that being said, what ARE some of the best ways to garner quick SP? how many SPs are in open world? would having an alt just speed through from SP to SP be wise? :// though, i always feel might as well go for map completely again while i’m doing that.
so far, just been playing the game as per usual. not in a big hurry, but i wouldn’t mind since for my next legendary, i am just missing SPs now. :OOO i guess a part of just wants to say the relics that i do have right now in case i need ’em for a backpiece one day. but who knows. but i guess if i did more fractals, i would get more eventualyl anyways.
[edit: actually, i think fractals might be the most efficient way now. i’ve been meaning to play more to have a chance at rings as well. thanks for the suggestion Apolyon!]
