Is there a way to do something good with them? I thought about using them with 3 75lvl rares to gamble in mystic forge – will it possibly give me some profit? (in case I dont believe in precursors) There too many variables like exotic prices, possible runes and such, it is too hard for me to say it right away, did someone researched it?
Or maybe I should just do that salvage kits and save some money from buying them from vendor?

It is probably cost effective to throw three green items into the forge with a stone in the hope of getting a rare, but that means putting a value of a little over a silver on each stone. Here is the maths.

Say five attempts to get dour greens converted to a yellow.
Average sale value of a green = 1.7s (don’t put in light armour, salvage for silk)
Average sale value of a yellow = 25s
Every five attempts uses fifteen greens and five stones, but produces four greens and a yellow, meaning the loss of 11 greens and five stones for a yellow.
With my pricing assumptions, this means a profit of 1.26s per stone.

Forging rares is a losing proposition given the current low price of exotics. Forging exotics is only worth it if you believe in precursors, or you are forging soulbound exotics bought from a dungeon vendor or WvW (and even here it only works OK for the level 70 WvW items that only cost badges, and CoF tokens that don’t have a decent salvage option).

It is far better value to craft Mystic Salvage Kits but that will hardly make a dent in your surplus. Yeah, I still have a lot forge stones too.

Yes replacing an item is probably the best thing you can do, but greens are not the best thing to use them with. Best use I’ve found for them was to use one with three exotic dungeon weapon offhands. Those cost the least amount of tokens and the stone will give you a random type after anyways, so just use the cheapest weapons. Use the ones from SE level & below since above that you can turn the tokens into 70+ rares and just salvage for ectos.

At worst you’ve taken tokens from a dung and turned them into a random exotic that you can sell. At best you just got yourself a precursor (this method is actually how I got the chosen shield precursor). In no case will you lose any gold (unlike using greens/rares where you’re out that potential value).

I used to throw three exotic weapons (not the dungeon ones) and a mystic forge stone into the mystic forge. But after loosing 200+ gold I gave up. There are just more reliable ways to make money. Now I just use them to make mystic salvage kits.

I use them for Mystic Salvage Kits too, but even so, I have WAY more Stones than I need.

dungeon exotics are best to salvage into inscriptions – use a master/mystic kit. a ~50% chance at a 3g inscription vs. 33% of a 3g exotic weapon if you MF them. Sure, you might get lucky and get a precursor, but I’d say 3g is average. Perhaps you feel differently? I’m not a gambler.
I do a lot of salvaging, so I make mystic kits with 95% of my stones. I like to save account-bound exotics that can’t give inscriptions I find and throw them in the forge with the remaining 5%. Not too many of those, but every now and then one pops up.

Do not waste mystic forge stones. Once you run out of them, they become very expensive and valuable.

It’s best to use them for mystic salvage kits.

In most situations, I agree that you’d be better off buying a cheap exotic for 60s than using a stone. But I wonder…
cheap dungeon weapon = 210 tokens x 3 = 630 tokens
dungeon average weapon = 300 tokens x 4 = 1200 tokens
So 1 stone would make a huge difference there.

Mystic salvage kits also provide non-quantitative value by saving up bank space and not having to constantly buy rare kits

Having a copper kit and a mystic salvage kit often means not having to visit a vendor for quite awhile.

I concurr that best use for these is unfortunately the mystic salvage kit. At stacks of 250 and playing multiple characters this saves me the hassle of buying multiple unlimited salvage kits or having to switch the one I have when switching characters while saving inventory space.

As far as dungeon token armors go, I am with the players above that salvage and sell the inscriptions on the TP. Especially if you get armor pieces that have a harder to craft stat sets such as dire, soldier, sent, etc.

gah! you’re right! I’m an idiot. that makes the stones cheaper than exotics, so throwing them in the MF actually IS a better use for all your free stones.
(it’s cheaper to use a stone as the 4th exotic and buy master kits than to buy a 4th exotic and use stones for mystic kits)
