Need Forge Advice!
Well, it’s a gamble. If each exotic is worth 1g each, that’s 4g you’re tossing in which can give you anywhere from 1-800g back.
EDIT: And no, that doesn’t mean the average return is 400g.
No advice can really be given, it is just gambling and depends on luck.

The poster above got a precursor today on the first try ever, others didn’t get anything even after throwing 1000 rares.
My advice to you is that since you don’t have a lot of gold, it would be best to sell it!
My way was to throw any cheap rares I got into forge. If I got exo I sold it and bought more rares for gamble. If I got Precursor I didn’t need/want I sold it also.
Not that I got many Precursors. In fact I got only 1 warhorn for zillions of rares I tossed into forge but exos I got earned me enough gold to buy Precursor I needed.

You’re poor so I really don’t recommend gambling. If you lose lots of your gold it can get pretty depressing. Your chances of striking it rich are very, very low. I’ve personally thrown away +700g since release on the forge and I haven’t got any precursors. In fact, I’ve got more precursors (3) from open world than the forge!
But if you want to gamble it all, you need to look at the value of those exotics. Some exotics are worth a lot more than others. Go to the outpost and sort lvl 80 exotics by lowest price. The lowest price will show the cheapest exotics that you can gamble with.
