It doesn’t say when these recipes are going into the system. Are they already in?

The screenshot seems to hint at dumping butter and such in there. It’d probably help Tyria’s arteries to take all that butter we’re looting off bandits and pirates and expunge it from this world, lest the Elder Dragons find a race of slow-moving five hundred pound humans for tasty, tasty eating.

You beat me to it. I’m also very curious what these new recipes could be. Haven’t really used the Mystic Forge very much, is there a way to tell if a certain combo will work at all before hand or do you have to just randomly throw stuff into it?

Frankly, I’ve never found an efficient and useful reason to use the forge to process stuff I find which I don’t need. Better to sell items I don’t want and the auction house won’t pay for (see also: basically everything).

That… seems a bit steep. Even for a pile of janky items. If the chests are as wonderfully rewarding as processing random junk is (resulting in, for instance, a soulbound axe on my engineer) then bleh. We need some guinea pigs to give this a shot first.

500 butter, mystic coin, ecto gave me a trophy jewel worth 60s and a Tube that can be used in the Mystic forge.
500 soft wood gave a trophy worth 30s and another item that can be used in the Mystic forge.

Mystic Forge items (these can be put in forge together, not sure what else they need)

• 3X Cold Potion – (no idea what this does)

Did everyone who posted about chests here use the standard “recipe” of a coin+ ecto and 2 stacks of materials?

so what they did was take a surplus of bottom tier crafting materials, which could have helped all the new low level players get their early crafting tiers done, and they gave recipies that only players level 68 or above had a chance at using cost effectively.

They passed the surplus goods to these higher level toons who then profited off them and that drove the price of all the bottom tier crafting materials to ten times their previous level. HOW did this help the game?

and for the record the prize you get in the ‘Mystic Box’ is basically junk.

Sounds like more work than it’s worth, since you can go to LA whenever you want for free.

yeah i was kinda disappointed with it once i got it, i suppose it could be kinda useful when farming but I can’t see a great need for it though I did manage to sell one for 3 g on the trading post so someone must find it useful

It’s good for the low level characters aswell since they can actually profit somewhat even with low level items, copper ore was dirt cheap before this and now it’s actually worth selling somewhat, what is a lowbie going to do with gazillion stacks of ores and other crafting materials that are barely worth anything? At least this way they can make decent money by going through the trouble of gathering stuff at low level.

Personally I’m fine with this, with my lowbies I wasn’t even bothering with gathering as the materials were worthless, now they can actually make some money by themselves

I realize that the new higher price gives lowbies a chance at making money, thats OK. It still just irks me that they made this correction and basically handed all the first-come-first-served high level characters a quick fix of cash, just so they could clear out some excess inventory. They could have just used a form of quantitative easing and bought up excess inventories.

It still benefits lower lvl players, now they can sell mats to make cash. I made piles of gold selling mats in WoW and I started from scratch a few times after being hacked. I feel there isn’t any reason why that wouldn’t translate to this game once they get the supply of goods under control Nuprin.

I don’t see how creating a use for junk hurts lower level vs higher level. Now a player with only low-level can sell stuff to higher lvl players who can easily get the ectoplasm. Whereas before you just had butter, soft wood, etc to vendor.

There was over 4million soft wood on the TP, so something had to be done.
New crafters will just have to do some gathering/scavaging, like everyone else if they cannot use the TP.

Show Anet constantly tells us before the game is released that end game starts at level 1 and you should enjoy just playing through the game instead of rushing to level 80, the proceeds to make limited time recipes to reward the players who did rush to 80 and screw everybody else over.

Soft wood combo doesn’t work in the MF for me ~-~ Butter and Green wood did…

Edit: Nevermind, worked when I put in soft wood first but wouldn’t work if the coin or ecto were placed first.

Unless I’m missing something it takes at least 1s to get to LA if you happen to be seriously close to it or a capital city with an asura gate that connects. I’ve spent upwards of 3s getting there from Orr.

Is there some sort of free LA portal I’ve missed?

For the record I’ve made about 1.5 gold in profit from these chests flipping soft wood and using ectos I already had, but its still gambling. I ended up getting crystals worth around 2 gold, but I know some people who popped a mystic chest and got less, actually losing money versus what was spent on “trash” mats, NTM the ectos which tend to be pretty valuable by themselves and not a good AH purchase for this purpose if you don’t happen to have them already.

Basically, its gambling. Granted, its gambling with a somewhat decent return rate, but there is still a large potential for loss with the mystic chest recipies, and the “holy grail” of getting the stuff to craft the MF conduit is likely going to cost you quite a bit.

There’s a Mystic Forge in the Heart of the Mists so no need to waypoint to a capitol.
