I just started playing a week ago or so and I’ve hit level 14 with my Silvary Thief.

Along the way I’ve been gathering and salvaging and not I’m unsure whether I should start crafting gear and/or weapons or just continue gathering and selling the materials.

Honestly I’ve almost decided to just gather and sell, but I wanted to come here and make sure I’m not kittening myself completely if I do this?

Any piece of advice is welcomed, thanks!

As a new player you would be low on gold, id advise to sell all your mats. Crafting would be only good for EXP.

Crafted items sell for hardly anything and you would be spending more than you’d make to craft. It’s best to sell mats.

Then once you get to max lvl 80 it’s much easier to take up a crafting profession if you want as you’re bound to have a decent amount of gold by then.

I personally used the mats I found to craft. Since they don’t sell for a lot, they won’t really help as much either if you’re low.

Sticking to basic materials gives a good amount of experience, and doesn’t give you any extra costs. Like green planks for artificers.

But in the end it’s up to you.

Depends on what you are looking for.

If you want to craft your own gear as you level and not depend on luck for drops then craft your own gear, you will get experience that will level you faster (up to 10 lvls per maxed craft), the downside is that this route tends to be a bit more expensive/grindy.

If you feel like you don’t want to deal with crafting for now then sell mats, almost all “blue” amor/weapons can be found on the TP very cheap and well within the budget of a “mat gatherer &seller”. Do watch for price of mats before salvaging, many drops are more valuable to vendor.

Know that crafting in GW2 is not meant to be profitable while leveling up, only at max craft and with good market research can profit be made from crafting.

Cancer is also a Zodiac sign.

Craft only if it feels fun! I did that for my first toon and it was a blast. Ofc it wasn’t the most efficient, but at that time I could pretty much farm all the stuffs I need (jewelry so no FCMs here). Now though, leveling up armorsmith for my legendary, I feel it’s too dry, like a job or a requirement, and I still get confused with the guides :|

Don’t disturb me, I have a cat in me at the moment.

The question is, do you want to level up as quickly as possible?

If yes, then it’s an hard time doing this on your own, only by Crafting. It takes too long to gather that much materials and you don’t have that much Gold to get them all via the Trading Post.

With my first Character, i just collected raw materials on my Way to complete Quests. I didn’t do any Crafting with my Main while Leveling, i never had that much material to make it a “profitable craft”.

I suggest you sell all your collected Material for Gold. Otherwise, you can also save it for your ALT.

However, crafting can be the fastest Way to Level your Character, but not meant to make money in low levels.

If you would be one of my Teammates that i already know over a long period of Time and Games (iam talking about Years on that), i would propaply help them to get their level boosted in no-time, supporting them with Gold to buy Materials.

That’s the best thing about low-level Crafting.

Crafting is for those who really enjoy it. I’ve got several crafts at max, and I leveled them as I went along, but it takes effort. Most people would be better off with farm and sell.
