New recipes cost too much to use?
They want you to buy primers.
Who knows. This is fairly consistent with all the new recipes I’ve seen. Costs of making them far outstrip utility.
The utility stations are indeed completely ridonculous price-wise. I don’t know how anyone came up with those as reasonable prices. Perhaps they looked at the cost of Feast recipes and used that as their baseline, but if so that was the wrong place to look as the recipe cost is a 1-time thing, and if you don’t want to pay for the Recipe you can just buy the feasts themselves.
Most of the Dry Top recipes aren’t bad. There are just a few that are pretty high. But given that many of them are reasonable, I’m not sure it was intentional that others be so costly. I still theorize that at least a couple of them are errors.
The Halloween ones actually aren’t that bad right now either. Comes out to about 85-90s for one batch if you buy everything off the TP (assuming I did my maths correct), and you get 5 when you make it just like other utilities. A bit more than normal utilities, but still reasonable enough. Of course, once Halloween is over that might be another story, especially if Candy Corn ever gets to 1s+ a piece like it did over the last year. Depends on just how much supply is created, but since the loot is flowing pretty freely I don’t really expect it to get quite that bad.
Of course, since the utility items themselves are dropping frequently as well, it’ll be a good while before the supply of the already-made items dries up and it becomes favorable to make them instead. Assuming anyone wants to use them anyway. I haven’t heard anything about whether they’re actually good to use or not, the item itself doesn’t really tell you what kind of stat boosts it gives you, and I’m not sure whether you get the buff all the time yourself or only for a short while after reviving someone.
The main use of those halloween utility items would be for the magic find not the stat boost imho. They are the only ‘oil’ in game i think that gives MF boost.
same as the craftable dungeon potions. Mats for one costs ~3g.
good ideas that went to the toilet at some point.
I haven’t seen Magic Find on utilities before. Maybe they think it’ll be popular (hence the 78c minimum sell price), but since Magic Find is such an unknown, purposefully obscured factor, I suspect people won’t bother.

You mean other than every serious farmer?
They are the only utility I’ll be running from now on, except in dungeon runs (where you have to be a team player).

How magic find works might be debated but now that I’ve gotten mine up to 147 I’ve started getting rares drop more frequently and I even got an exotic drop from a random low level mob. I think the last exotic I’ve gotten from a mob was over a year ago before they nerfed the old farms in Orr.
What’s the point of introducing new consumable recipes if the crafting cost is so high that nobody will use them? Some are even time-gated or use time-gated ingredients. Recent examples:
- Sharpening stone station and variants
- Dry top foods
- New halloween consumables

I really hate how the new consumable items cost so much to craft. like the Prickly Pear Stuffed Nopale and Toxic Sharpening Stone for example. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Prickly_Pear_Stuffed_Nopale)
I want to use these consumables in my build, but the food literally costs over 1 gold just to craft 1 of them. It’s too much. I have to use ghetto consumables instead because its just too pricey

I took part in that thread too and unfortunately the answers we get comes down too, “because, reasons”, which isn’t all that satisfying.

Have to agree. If the ingredients were chosen for “reasons” that make the item unprofitable to craft, then it might as well not even been put into the game. If, after months have gone by it’s still unprofitable to craft then it really feels like the reasons were badly chosen.
I don’t think these recipes are really added to be a significant part of the economy, but rather as a way of making the items available after their living story chapter or holiday is past. It’s the same for Black Lion weapons, which have their ticket prices go up after a certain time. You’re basically paying a premium to get the item later on.

My base magic find went from 91% up to 166% over a three month period, thanks largely to the Halloween event. Rare drops do not appear to have increased for me.
Same with magic find boosters, whether it be food, magic find boosts from guilds, magic find boosters from black lion chests, bonfires, sharpening skulls & crystallized nougat.
Often wondered if the magic find boosts are bugged or have very limited impact on drop rates for rare, exotic & precursors.
Fact is I have had better drops without the extra boosts.

I notice MF has given me a lot more t5/t6 mats. Few more rares/exotics as well, but the chance to get those is far lower so it’s not as noticeable. More MF certainly does help.

MF = zero, IMO.
New recipes not good?
We have 2 years old recipes that no one uses because they are stupidly expensive.
Why would you be surprised after all this time?
They did it again with Bountiful and Furious recipes. T6 mats for almost no extra effect.
Well I once crafted a superior signet of speed just to see it how it is – jeoperdizing i can sell it (didnt watch tp). It’s 2s and some copper. However, it uses a CHARGED LODSTONE…
