As the title says, I’m new to crafting. Do I need to salvage all the items I don’t need? I know about the salvageable trophies, and junk goes to vendor, but Items should be salvaged or sold in the trading post?
And basiclly, Is it worth the effort end-game?

The best way to go about getting crafting materials is to: a) gather every node you see, and b) salvage items you don’t need. The prices you get from the merchant for semi-rare and rare items are typically negligible, and you can get some good amounts of crafting materials out of it.

You’ll also need some other ingredients, called “Collectibles.” These are dropped from various monsters around the game, and obviously the weaker enemies drop the earlier “tiers” of crafting collectibles, whereas stronger enemies will drop higher tiered crafting items. These don’t auto-sell when you hit the “Sell Junk” button at merchants, and you can hit the little gear icon in your inventory and hit “Deposit All Collectibles” to make them go to your Collectibles screen in your bank. (If you haven’t seen it, when you’re at the bank, it will be a little tab below the standard bank tab, and it contains a slot for every collectible in the game—so they don’t use your bank space and you can teleport them there anytime you want.)

The nice thing about GW2 is that you get an impressive amount of experience toward your actual combat level when you craft, which stands as a nice incentive to do it (in fact, I think some of the first 80s were big into crafting, as it helped them get a few along the way). So I’d recommend crafting just based on this.

However, there’s also the matter of runes and gear modifications and food buffs and a host of things you can get out of crafting, so I’d recommend it for that as well. I’m sure it is going to be a situation at end-game where you can go into a dungeon and get better gear than a crafter can make, but so far the gear I have been able to make has been comparable if not better in some cases to the gear I could obtain through random drops and event chests.

I’d definitely say go for it!

Thief and mesmer uses light clothing so tailoring would be ideal. Then maybe weaponsmithing for thief weaps and artificing for mesmer staves and scepters. Jewelry is rather easy to craft as peoplr have said. Cooking is also easy i heard but changes might have changed that opinion.

Agreed with penatbater on most everything, with one exception: Take Leatherworker as a Thief, not Tailoring, as Thieves use Medium Armor.
