Newbie needing help
Crafting is a great way to level BUT it requires GOLD to do unless you have been relentlessly collecting EVERY SINGLE consumable and salvaging every piece of gear dropped or you just sunk a ton of cash into a Cash for Gems exchange you’re probably not ready for it.
Honestly, EOTM is the BEST way to level up. Sure you’ll probably die a lot as a low level but if you can get in a good zerg train, the xp that flows from that will get you levels (and materials you need for crafting).
Ahhh, gotcha. So unless I’m rich, crafting is more time consuming that it is lucrative for leveling. Good to know.
That sounds great. That is a WvW instance, right? Where would I find EOTM?

Crafting low level items is usually not profitable. Most people level their crafts to gain experience and levels, so supply of the crafted items is usually higher than demand and the demand for the raw ingredients is usually high, so are their prices.
For the first 25 levels of your crafting profession, you can just refine common mats (green wood log, copper ore, scrap of jute, rawhide leather section) which you propably got some of each in queensdale.
If you want to gain some levels before heading into the next level 10-20 zone, you can also go to the other 4 starter maps (every city of each race has a low level zone beside it).
I wouldnt recommend going into EOTM to level, if you are new to the game and its your first toon. But if you want to, there is an icon on the top left of your screen that looks like a tower. Click on it and the wvw panel shows up. There you can decide if you want to go to the Eternal Battlegrounds, one of the Borderlands or on the right side, Edge of the Mists.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Thanks for the info. It sounds to me that the other 4 starter maps would be a great way to go about leveling. How would I find those?
Depending on which race you are you can go back to your home city and find the purple portal that will take you to Lion’s Arch. From there you can access the home cities of the other races which you can then explore. Each of those cities are attached to a starting zone for character levels 1-15.
I presume you have started with a human character so your home city will be Divinity’s Reach (DR). There are two portals in DR. One is near the royal palace and that will take you to Lion’s Arch. The other portal takes you to the fortress city of Ebonhawke in Fields of Ruin. This is a lvl 30-40 zone.
At Lion’s Arch, the portal to Divinity’s Reach will be next to a bunch of other portals that will take you to:
Charr home city, Black Citadel, which connects to Plains of Ashford
Asura home city, Rata Sum, which connects to Metrica Province
Norn home city, Hoelbrak, which connects to Wayfarer Foothills
Sylvari home city, The Grove, which connects to Caledon forest.
Don’t forget the story missions, either. They’ll net you a few levels.
If you’re new I wouldn’t be too hasty in leveling up as quickly as possible. Exploring some of the other newbie zones like Azrael suggested. If you haven’t fought the Shadow Behemoth in Queensdale (it’s a World Boss), try that! There are World Bosses in three other starter zones: Caledon Forest, Wayfarer Foothills and Metrica Province.
But if you want to WvW, you can click on one of the icons at the top of your screen to get there.
