Right now I’m playing an engineer. My options for crafting are
Cook (useful to all)
Jeweler (useful to all)
Huntsman
Leatherworker

I went into cooking and jeweler for one reason – I am contested about crafting equipment.

Pros:
-Ensure you’re wearing equipment appropriate for your level
-Easily customize your characters appearance
-Create stuff useful right up to the end of the game

Cons:
-Completely negates the entire equipment loot system (no point in fighting that epic boss for the super glowwy weapon if you can already make it)

,,, well I guess that’s the only con. But it’s a big one. So I want to know..how does everyone feel about this? I’m finding cooking to be fun, but a huge money sink.

I haven’t found myself using the items I’ve crafted past level 20 other than jewelry, artificer potions, and food. Oh, and bags.

I think that once I get my leather working skill up to the higher tiers, I will find it useful, but all the intermediate stuff along the way has not been better than what I can get from the TP for a few silver or as karma rewards.

I have transmuted some of the skins from crafted items on to other gear though.

Couple things to consider:

1: If you like to zip through the levels, crafting is gonna be completely and totally useless as you zip past gear that you can craft way faster than you can make them. With steady DE participation you can just use the various karma vendors to keep your gear up to date.

2: Tailor, Leatherworking, and Armorsmithing only produce 1 distinct “look” per craft tier, so if you’re crafting for looks, then you better hope you like the armor design, not sure about weaponsmith/artificer/huntsman.

3: Jeweler is easy to level up to lv375 but after that is becomes extremely annoying as you require ectos for all of your recipes from then on.

4: Crafting for looks is typically done via Mystic Forge, which require weird sets of materials and may or may not actually require a crafting discipline at lv400, but they look pretty cool.

5: Each armor discipline can also craft bags, which is neat, except for the larger bags which require the ridiculously expensive holding runes (2g for 18 slot places? lolno).

6: Crafting things -usually- sells at a loss, the raw material used to make them typically bring in more profit. This isn’t always the case, but most of the time it is.

I actually play through the game pretty slowly. I’ve been playing since early access and I’m level 22 if that tells you anything. I play once in a while with friends… I paid $60 for the game, I’m not gonna blast through it in a week (feel sorry for anyone who wasted their money in doing so).

I’m pretty sold on going into leatherwork now.. just gotta figure out if I wanna bother with huntsman. Weapon stats don’t carry over to kits, and I mostly use kits with my engineer. Maybe they’ll change it later and I’ll wish I had gone into huntsman.. arg..
