Could we maybe get more orichalcum nodes in the game? It feels a bit off balance compared to the other raw materials.

Good. Before they changed the orichalcum ore spawn times the price of orichalcum was dropping through the floor by the hour. It was around 2s hours before they released the change.

I don’t see a problem here. You can still get all the ore you need to craft with easily if you gather it yourself and it’s now, once again a viable way to make money.

Orichalcum ore isn’t supposed to be common like all the other raw materials. It is in fact, supposed to be rare. Do you want to see it on the market for less than 1s? Because that’s the direction it was heading.

There was the exploits of ppl mining unlimited oric, that is why it fell, they should have banned them all and gotten rid of the oric they mined.

Besides the free server transfer abuse I don’t know what exploit you are talking about.

Well, exotic jewelry is now super expensive to craft and harder to sell because of this. :-p

No, it’s pointless to sell because people are listing the finished pieces for less than the value of the materials.

Supply & Demand is not entirely a force of nature, beyond any measure of our own control. Stupid however is a natural force with no known counter. If Timmy insists on dropping the price below the value of the materials just so that his will sell first, there’s little Anet or anyone can do. Corky will come along and list his for even less because his has to sell first, and thus begins the downward spiral. Timmy and Corky will throw up their hands and say, “Oh well, S&D in action!” without realizing that it is in fact manifest destiny instead. All they really had to do was not drop the price below that threshold, and wait an extra 10 minutes or an hour for their item to sell. Because the reality is that if it’s an item people want, it will sell.

It’s a pointless debate anyway given that this is the same community that started selling greens at a loss (i.e. below vendor value after TP fees) on day 1. Math is apparently not this crowd’s strong suit.

In any case, the now-higher price of Ori is a rare example of something that works correctly in this market. It’s supposed to be rare, thus it should be valuable.

salvaaaageeee :P

I found that salvaging lvl 80 armor has a chance of giving orichalcum even with the basic salvage kits (although small)

I currently salvage all the white armor and weapons i find and occasional get lvl 400 mats but i found it higher for blues and significantly higher (though i didnt do this much and cant confirm) for greens

I think you fail to realize something. It’s not supply and demand, its all about demand.

The TP currently favors the buyers and less for the sellers. The sellers DEMAND that an item costs 2g, even though it costs 2g50s to make, and therefore, the people who want to sell either must exchange for a loss, ot put it up at a price ‘buyers’ do not wish to pay.

With taxes, this makes the issue DOUBLY compounding to the sellers, as they have to pay taxes on not only what they list, but when buyers buy it as well.

If you want to even out the ‘market’ have the BUYERS pay taxes (and lower the taxes to match listing fees) and both parties will be a little more selective on what they buy/sell and this skewed market will even itself out.

As it is, people are beginning to go black market style and using the honor system to buy/trade goods for reasonable (TAX FREE) system. Currently selling for hot prices: Globs of ecto at 13s apiece, orchalcum for 2s 50c a piece (must buy in multiples of 2)
so on and so forth.

I am guessing that many people will be dealing on the side soon, with this sudden explosion in prices. I have not heard complaints about people stealing others’ money, and goods are still moving. I pretty much only use TP to sell runes now. Sell em hot, grab my money. Most my stuff though, goes to the garbage bin, I mean, NPC merchants.

No, it can’t ever just be demand, because if sellers refused to supply it at a loss, there wouldn’t be any for sale at a loss and buyers would have to either buy for a higher price than they want, or put up a price the sellers do not wish to accept.

The situations are exactly symmetrical, in other words (apart from taxes, but that just means sellers shouldn’t accept prices as low as they sometimes do).

I do not. I refuse to craft things for people, and as I have stated, people are starting to move to a ‘black market’ to avoid taxes. Somethings are cheaper, some things are more expensive, but it is the fairest market outthere, at least on my server.

And part of what Travis said is true. Some people JUST DON’T KNOW BETTER. So they sell things at a loss to themselves, not because they are generous and are accepting a loss, they just don’t know better. And part of that is the ‘hidden’ fees on the taxes.

It was nice of A.Net to place a ‘expected’ profit margin so you can better judge your worth, but all too often, people still don’t know any better.

Nest to the black market, the NPC vendors have recently become my dearest of friends. At least they are not stabbing me in the back on fair market value.

No. It’s much more accurate to say that blissfully unaware sellers often fall for the absurdly low buy price; here “absurdly” is defined as “below the value of the materials”. I don’t care how hard someone wishes I will sell something for 1g when its materials are worth 1.50g; it’s not going to happen. Ever.

Unfortunately, not everyone realizes the mistake they’re making when they do sell for that price and so we all suffer.

So in a way you are sort of right, in that people who think the buy price always represents fair value and/or don’t consider material value are driving the market — driving it straight into the gutter, and taking us all along for the ride.

Just look at the item when you click on custom offer. You can get a better idea only THEN what items are selling for. This is what causes a listing of 50 things, with every single one being 1-5 copper apart.
