Please stop with the Account Bound Crafting
There’s way too much ancient hold-over mechanics in this NEW MMO. They wanted to be different but they’re using the same antiquated mechanics as everyone else. Account bound everything new to protect a self-healing market GOLD SINK.
I hate with an unrivaled passion the account bound crafting.
Artificer mystery tonics – account bound, why, why, why? what possible scenario could this affect the game detrimentally if I sold it?
Binding is something that we’ve NEVER done in the real world, why does it make any kind of sense in a game?
“Here’s your new bike Timmy! Now just remember, your friends can never touch this and you can never sell it, it can never be left at a friends house and it can never be lost. If you don’t want this anymore, just hang it up in your garage or destroy it completely.”
I’m crafting to get the perfect stuff for WvW. I would rather be WvWing and buying it off TP.
I fully support the OP. This isn’t fun for crafters of WvWers.
And I would be happy to craft those items for a small profit.
I really can’t see why this was done and still hope they’ll change it.
Fully agree.
When the game started my friends and I used to craft stuff for each other so we always had what we needed with the professions we wanted to play. I cooked food and tailored, one of my friends made staffs for me and another one the daggers.
Nowadays the social aspect of crafting goes to heck. If you want ascended gear, you need to level all the professions for it, otherwise there is no way to get it.
With the exception of Ascended Materials (frakkin’ bloodstone dusts, I’m looking at you), this is the only thing I don’t like about account bound-ness. I HATE souldbound with a passion, so I am glad more stuff has been moving to account-bound; but crafting (and I can be swayed either way on ascended staying account-bound) should be an entrepreneurial thing for our characters.
That said, there are only a relative few things in the entire stable of craftable items that are worth more in final form than their component materials. Until something happens to tip that balance (maybe some reasonable stats distributions that are craftable-only/undroppable or similar), I don’t see unbinding as having a huge shift on the seller side (albeit, OP mentioned the value to the buyer).

Let us trade. Let the TP work. Most of all don’t make me craft! I will buy gems to get gold and give it to players on the TP to avoid crafting.
Youre crafting system is the best I’ve ever used in an MMO. However, there is a segment of players that will NEVER like crafting enough to trade precious game time for it. Please let us spend our money.

My thougths exactly.
/signed. And please either make the recipes from the Zephyrites be tradable too, OR have Geodes tradable. I have a friend who’s an extremely casual GW2 player, and he isn’t interested in any of the new rewards from Dry Top. He would sell or gift his Geodes to me if he could, but they’re all account bound.
crafting is a profession. like mesmer or warrior. Not everyone does it. It shouldn’t be a support mechanic where you do it to give you a boost for when you play how you want to play.
Imagine if you got +5% damage for 2 hours from running a jumping puzzle. everyone would do it, and most players would hate doing it. Because not everyone loves jumping puzzles, yet everyone wants an extra 5% damage. Do you really want a game where you are forcing players to do things they hate? Yes: forcing, because anyone that doesn’t have that +5% is at a disadvantage – as if the enemy is cheating. They will put up with this for a short time, but quickly lose interest and go play something else instead.
Let them play how they want to, and use what they get from playing that way to get things that make them more effective at playing how they want to play.
A shame I couldn’t +1 OP more than once.

/agree – the large amount of account bound stuff lately is a big shame, particularly in crafting, but also many other things that I know I would just like to send to friends (geodes is one example).
I see valid arguments for both sides.
Restricting stuff to be account bound goes against the mantra of “play the game you want to play”.
However, i think this game was more or less designed to cater towards casuals and for casuals, that mantra still holds true.
But if we go into hardcore gameplay and players (a group of players that kept growing over time), i agree that it shouldnt apply anymore.
You dont need BiS and min/max your stats in order to casually play the game. And people want to have unique rewards for their achievements that cant be bought with gold.
I am fine with players being able to buy everything they need to casually play the game with gold/gems but getting the best gear and some shiny skins should involve some kind of achievements.

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from, Wanze. While I still would like to see everything being tradable, it would no doubt harm the longevity of the game from ANet’s perspective if players could simply buy everything and “bypass content”.
That said, it’d be nice if players could earn money off their skill by selling rare skins/items that are only acquirable in certain game modes. For instance, as someone who loves SAB, I imagine I’d find plenty of buyers from people who want the Trib Mode skins (either to use or to complete their collection), but can’t stand playing jumping puzzles. Likewise, you could have someone who won the ToL, but has zero interest in miniatures and would prefer to sell the Mini Llama to a collector who might be willing to pay hundreds (thousands?) of gold for it.

Well, the OP isnt very specific which items he is referring to. I see a good point for the llama to be sellable but i would disagree with skins (unless Trib Skins are 1 per account) or any other account bound item that is farmable (ascended gear through crafting and fractals for example) to be sellable.

I get sad every time I have to go craft for extended periods of time.
I have no problems farming monotonous little routes over and over again alone in the wilderness. It’s practically all I did in Gw1 and I stuck with that game for 7 years. I’m not an uncreative person either. I’ll spend weeks coloring a single Character + Background or moving vertices around and rigging some bone joints over and over again. I don’t mind that stuff. This crafting system however…. some days it feels more like “work” than actual work feels like work. ….if any of that makes any sense.
I hope it did, ie: +1 to the OP
Everything new in the game is saddled with some horrible flaw – celestial exotic is timegated via quartz, ascended is all soulbound and now this.
I don’t understand it, honestly, especially as these restrictions, clearly intended to stop auction house issues, are never relaxed at a later time once things have calmed – it takes 46 days to make a celestial exotic set for example – why? And why is ascended and its materials untradeable when legendaries are on the auction house.
Its nonsensical and gets more head scratching with every expansion that comes out. Why do we have an auction house at all?
