To get precursors from Mystic Forge do i need to put in 4 rare/exotics of the same type or can i just put in 4 rare/exotic of random type

Here, I’ll explain.

If you want a greatsword precursor, all 4 weapons have to be a greatsword to guarantee you will receive a greatsword back. This in turn, could possibly be a precursor.

I would personally wait until they actually implement the scavenger hunt as they said they would, and work on the other items required for your legendary. This is all up to you though!

Same type will give you the same type of weapon. Say 4 rare or exotics daggers will possibly spit out a Spark. Random will be random. Three random and 1 mystic forge stone works too, you’ll receive a random weapon type back.

The least expensive rare staff would be based solely on the fluctuating market prices of the Fine Crafting Materials. That said, I think the Large Bones tend to be pretty inexpensive comparatively. You might also have decent luck with the Potent Venom Sacs.

Since they do fluctuate, you need to keep your eye open for which prices are lowest for you at a given time.

From my understanding (and correct me if I’m wrong), the chance of getting a precursor from 4 rares is extremely low. Also, does adding a mystic forge stone help or hurt?

there is appr. 25% chance of 4 rares proccing into an exotic. To my knowledge, you have about the same chance to get the precursor as any other exotic.

Edit: I think you do need to have lvl 75+ though

The chance of getting a precursor from four rares is less than 5%. My experience:
- Rares (Lvl. 80) placed in the Mystic Forge: 1,763.
- Exotics obtained: 100 (5.67%).
- Precursors: 0
Perhaps the chance increases with exotics. I haven’t tried.

According to red post, exotics do have a higher chance of returning precursors. Some people think that it’s actually cheaper with exotics due to the higher chance.

But that is just my take on what she said. I have 0 luck and dont play the toilet often cause it flushes my gold out to sea to fast and too often.

The scav hunt will not be coming in the near future – Colin stated so so dont expect it within the next 5 months. Although they may attempt another way to increase the availability or drop rates but that is all unknown at this time.

Can you define rarity lynsey? Do you mean just any level 80 exotics or do you mean extremely hard to get exotics like named ones? Do crafted weapons constitute as less rare?

Though not all Exotics are “created equal” they are all of the same rarity: Exotic.

So yes, all exotics work equally well since they’re all of the same rarity/gear tier. It’s the gear tier + level that matters.

The chance may be higher, but the increased chance is still subjective and unknown. It could be .1% better or it could be 10% better.

A guild mate of mine spent a total of 700~ gold over the period of two months throwing exotics into the MF and tracked each combination on a spreadsheet. About 60% of his combinations were with Pearl greatswords, the remainder was with named exotics. It came out to something like 300 combinations into the MF that never resulted in a Dusk or Dawn.

This was over the course of November & December. I’ve amassed a small fortune playing Trade Wars 2 and ended up buying him a Dawn. It’s ridiculous that such exclusivity is left up to odds if they want to choose not to aid and abet the monopoly on controlled items.

Is the 1,763 the number of tries, or the number of total weapons used? If its the number of tries, then you should divide by 4 first. I’m thinking that this is the number of tries since it is not divisible by 4, but earlier in this post someone said it was roughly a 25% yield for an exotic from rares. 1,763/4 ~ 441 and 100/441 ~22.7% which is fairly close to 25%, so you might be able to see the confusion.

I think while she said that they were not all created equal she went on to say they were all sill exotic. The way I think it was meant was that named does not make any difference. It has not made any difference at least in my tries.
