When any friend asks me what is my favorite game I always say that It’s Guild Wars 2 of course, but, if they ask me if they should start playing I need to tell them to just don’t.

The reason is that ANet is making the life of the new players so hard that I simply can’t recommend the game right now.

Back when I started playing, with 10$ in gems you could get about 2~3 major crafts (not including food, jewel and artificing), and get about 25~30 levels out of it.

Nowdays, 10$ in the game is about to 48 gold coins, and considering the prices in “gw2crafts.net”, thats 1 and a half major crafts that, with the massive nerf to experience by crafting, would result in aproxx. 10 levels.

Even considering that no player under lv. 80 could have real use of 400+ (or even 400) craft equipment (even for selling them once the exo materials are so expensive to be made for a first character under max. level), they still nerfed the xp giving 3 levels to 400~500 craft, 3 levels that has absolutely no use for characters that already are in max. level (about 150 gold for 3 skill poins yeeey ._.).

But the worse was comming, with the use of basic ores into the ascended recipes, they just made their prices skyrocket, even if it wasn’t hard already for new players to level 7 levels instead of 10 when crafting, they made it almost impossible to level by crafting considering the basic crafting price rise.

Needless to say that, every time they nerf a gold farm method (like they did with CoF P1, World Boss Chests, Champion Trains, and Dungeon Tokens) they seems to forget that the iflation (caused by the rise in the demand and in the total gold flux in the servers while having a fixed supply of basic goods like ores, leathers, fabrics, cores, etc. considering a fix drop rate in the game) will struck the new players 100 times harder then the old ones, once they will need to handle the high prices with no efficient method to farm them.

Not considering only that mistake that already made me think that they really don’t want new players to enjoy the game, when making an ascended gear (A.K.A. endgame armor for high level fractals and hardcore end game content), they included in the recipe TONS of EARLY GAME GOODS!

If you want to make a full ascended heavy set the list of BASIC 1-400 GOODS you would need are:

1000 Wool Scraps, 500 Cotton Scraps, 1000 Linnen Scraps, 7500 Silk Scraps, 1440 Iron Ore, 650 Platinum Ore and 1600 Mithril Ore

Can you imagine what are the results of this in the market?! They just set the demmand 1000x higher in ONE SINGLE UPDATE! Considering that the old players had no problem to buy those goods ASAP for their ascended gears, its pretty logical that the price of that goods (that were meant to be used in early game content and leveling) would rise so much (because of the instant up in demand) that the price of an iron ore stayed a long time the same as a orichalcum ore!

If that wasn’t enought, with the nerf in dungeon tokens, now the old players (with their pocked packed of gold coins) prefer just buying the exotic gear from the TP, and that make the prices of the exotic armor rise again (they falled a bit after the ascended patch due to the rise in supply).

Considering that, nowdays, for new players, not only crafting via gems or farm are not viable for leveling, but they are doomed to never have sufficient gold to actually start enjoying the game, so please ANet, HIRE AN ECONOMIST TO FIX THE THINGS YOU DID TO THIS GAME, I beg you, I love this game, but the complexity of the commerce just seems to be out of your hands :/

Sorry for the long text and lexical mistakes, I’m brasilian so It’s not my main language.

Suggest to your friends to get the game but not level their first character with crafting at all. Get out and experience the world. Enjoy the game for what it is. Don’t rush your first character.

If they want to convert $10 into ~50g, that’s great because now they can do that and get half of a set of fancy T3 armor for themselves if they want to. Back in the day you couldn’t even get 1/10th of that same armor set. Life’s pretty not bad for new players these days, really.

On the other side of the coin, new players who aren’t interested (and really shouldn’t be interested ) in ascended gear and anything that costs quite a bit of gold for the experienced player now can earn a lot more gold than before.

Look at how valuable iron ore is. Look at how much copper ore. Before, they would be worthless. Now they have actual value that is more beneficial for the whole playerbase.

From what I’m getting from you, you would rather have all items in game be worthless and cheap to acquire than have all items have value.

Items that you don’t want have value, for which you can exchange for a currency that will help you get an item that you want.

I disagree.

New players shouldnt look at crafting to level their first character but actually play the game. While playing the game, they actually get more drops of those highly priced ressources than end game players, keep in mind that they also get on level gear drops which they can salvage into lower tier mats, while lvl 80ies only get t5 and t6 mats from their salvaged gear.

So new players, that start leveling their first character now, actually gain way more gold by selling their loot compared to a year ago.

Until you hit level 80, there is no need to craft your own gear because you get enough good gear that you outlevel fast anyways, just from drops.

^ Mats are free. Your only argument is that they can’t do it instantly with a credit card anymore.

New players should NOT be craft leveling. They should be playing the game and frankly learning to play instead of instantly hitting max level and making it harder on everyone else to carry them in game-play where one needs to know what they are supposed to do ahead of time.

And all those shinies don’t mean squat anyways if one does not know how to use them.

If you buy a game you play it, why in the world wouldn’t you want to play it from the beginning. Starting as as level one newb and working your way up to level 80 by exploring and doing events. It seems to me to take all the fun out if you’re an immediate level 80 when starting out.

I can see using crafting to gain levels after you’ve leveled a couple of characters to 80 previously, but not at the very start of the game.

There is a easy way to fix this problem, let hige LvL item scale down in MF just like low LvL item can scale up there now.
