Gonna guess it’s a you lose because while there are some guaranteed recipes a lot are just gambles
so you put 4 single runes in without something else?

If you put something into the forge you have a chance of getting something that is soulbound on aquire.
The forge when not using specific (and currently mainly unknown) recipes you are then simply gambling.
