There are lot of ways how to combine items to get precursor… well, rather chance to get it. I got lost now and need help – what happens if I mix (exotic!) 3 harpoons and 1 axe? Will I get random exotic weapon with chance for precursor?

You will get a random weapon of the same rarity (if exotic this includes precursors).

Just to be super explicit here: A random weapon really means random. You can also get a greatsword or a bow.

General advice – it is good to mix when using types with cheap precursors (underwater weapons, foci etc). When using weapon types where precursor is worth a lot (GS, hammer etc) it’s better to use 4 of the same type.
