Ok, i’m biting the bullet and figuring im gonna just need to save/farm gold to get my kitten precursor. My question is should i be selling the rare weapons i get or trying to salvage em and selling the ecto? Recently hit a bad streak in salvage and been getting crap so debating just selling the rares instead. Another question is should i maybe be dumping the rare staves and making rare staves with T5 mats i get into the MF to try for a precursor staff? Or again just make rare staves and TP em? I’m asking cause ive already sunk well over 200 rare staves into the MF and nothing so it’s starting to add up cashwise after i think about if i had sold them all. What’s your guys’ idea on those questions?

Sometimes you have a bad streak, happened to me and a friend too. After a while it’ll get better.
I’m going to buy my precursor of the TP, I don’t like the idea of maybe waisting 300g.

The thing is u are trowing rares to the forge that a big mistake, Rare are for salvage exotic to the forge. Yeah I know exotic are expensive and all but they have a better % to give u the precursor, now I think u should just salvage and sell the ectos u win more money doing that yeah sometimes u hit a bad streak but normally u are even 1ecto for 1 rare, and right now 1 rare is like 20s to 30s and the ectos is 37s to 40s depending of the day.

Never played the mystic forge didn’t waste any gold in any way, so don’t count on my opinion but i think that it would be better to use exotics. Seems overall more intelligent to me.

Whenever you throw 4 rares into the MF you first have to succeed the (possibly) 20% chance to get an exotic and then also roll another dice to get the precursor… i’d suggest just bux exotics or use tokens and throw in instead

Salvage your rares, sell the ectos and sigils/runes you get from them, use the money towards buying a precursor.

Don’t touch the forge. You don’t have the money to withstand streaks of loss.

As far as the question of selling rare weapons vs salvaging for ectos, just know that selling the rares is safer while salvaging involves the RNG. As for making rares to sell, you can indeed make a modest profit selling certain level 80 rare crafted weapons. However, I think a better use of the T5 mats might be to craft cloth or leather level 80 rare armor and salvage those for ectos.

In job lot salvages I tend to manage 16-18 ecto per 25 rares salvaged.

I sat down on a few occasions to salvage rares and determine if it was worth doing….. if over time, the break down was 1:1 or better, salvage is worth it, otherwise, it more often wasn’t.

For loot drops, compare the ‘match lowest seller’ price to the price of ecto, if it’s 5s or more below the cost of ecto, I consider it worth salvaging and take the gamble.

Your mileage may vary, but I sell more often than I salvage.

I thought we all found and agreed that ecto salvage rate was around .8 per salvage? If you believe that to be the case (I do) then calculate the cost of Ecto times 0.8 and if that number is greater than the profit you would get from selling the rare then its better to salvage.

For better or for worse, the vast majority of this game is purely math based thanks to RNG.

Actually, it depends on the current market price of what weapon you’re going for.

It’s ~20% chance to upgrade rare —> exotic, which means you should check the price of the rares and exotics. If the exotics are equal to or less than 5x the price of the rares, use exotics. If the price is higher, you’re statistically saving money by buying rares. If you don’t care for probability, just use exotics instead, then.

I don’t play the mystic forge lottery, but as for salvaging rares, i think you come out even. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win when salvaging. And i don’t feel like i win more often…so i just sell the rares.

lol.. are you serious? You’re telling us you want to save up gold to buy your precursor from TP and then you’re asking us if gambling is a viable way to make money? That’s like asking a magic 8 ball if you’re gonna win the lottery.

Salvage white heavy armors or certain weapons for mithril/orichalcum (never salvage stuff like apprentice gloves, even if it’s white. Cause if you get silk scrap you usually lose money). I know it might look small, but all these small things add up.

Only math will tell you the answer, cause prices change every second.
