Topic.
I have characters that have that have combinations of crafting skills I don’t care for that were made at the spur of the moment:
“Why do I have 3 Artificers?”.
I have made new ones that I want to train after another character maxes out a discipline:
“Master Jeweler plans to retire and apprentice someone else.”
It is also gets expensive to train multiple characters in the same profession, as the new Dry Top recipes have shown me:
“Did I get everyone the recipes they need? Do they know that one already? Did I just get 4 recipes for 3 Artificers?”

The idea that one character can train in 3 professions has been added, but is there an option to simply retire one completely?

I don’t know what you mean by retire. Do you mean your character forgetting that profession? No, because you already gained experience from it. They can’t remove the experience gained as skill points gained can be already used to make money and unlock traits and skills.

If you don’t want it showing on the list of crafting professions they know, learn something else, something you are not going to use on it. For example, I had one character I no longer wanted to show a particular second crafting profession. I has it learn cooking, a profession that I knew I would never use on it.

you can swap one of your professions for another one whenever you want. There’s a fee, I forget what it is, but it depends on your level of the profession you’re switching TO. So, if you’re removing a 400/500 skill and replacing it with a profession you have 0 in the cost is pretty much nothing.

Now, if you want to retire your profession permantently (like lose your levels and not be able to switch back) you can’t do that, but that doesn’t seem bad.

I can switch, which I did for a character that was only at level 20 in that craft, so no biggie there. I don’t expect to forget all the character has learned, but an “I quit” option could be available.
All of my underachievers Living in the shadow of my master crafters is an option. A single Master at all recipes that become available via special or drop (i.e. Chaos of Lyssa) and the rest just being okay, as if it is a hobby.

if you could learn a artificer recipe on one character and another character that has artificer on it could craft it, I would be soooo happy. or maybe be able to move my 500 artificer from one character to another? account-bound recipe learning would be the better option – also would be a gold sink for the craft leveling on alt.

3-crafts upgrade just confuses the whole mess, as the distribution for 3 crafts per character is different than 2:
- 2 would be 4 characters, one with AB, another with CD, another with EF, another with GH
- 3 would kittenaracters, one with ABC, another with DEF, another with GH
- then 4 would be 2 characters, one with ABCD, another with EFGH
every upgrade you have to completely re-adjust who knows what craft.

then there’s the problem with limited-time recipes. if you learn the recipe to make superior sigil of tormenting on your necro, you better get used to having that necro around, because you can’t get that recipe again.
