I blew threw a fair bit of leather just to make the bow string for my ascended Long Bow. This got me thinking about the nightmare it would be to make a full set of leather or cloth Ascended armor with only being able to break down items to get the mats. Armorsmithing can harvest nodes. I think it would only make sense that Tailoring have harvestable nodes as well.

My suggestions are make wool, silk, gossamer nodes that are harvestable with the current sickles placed with the same spawn rates as the relative level of metals. I would also like to see the introduction of skinning knives as a harvesting tool so we can skin beasts. You can even make an infinite skinning knife with an earth elemental graphic to complete the set of elements for the harvesting tools.

Please consider these suggestions for your typical casual players. With the current way of obtaining cloth and leather it will take an average player half a year at best to make a full set of armor if you are like me and can’t stand joining farming trains for hours on end to just buy the mats.

I don’t think another gathering tool is needed. What about wool scraps, will we need harvesting shears too? What kind of animal would drop gossamer? If you have already killed the animal, the drops could be changed to include the materials. The drop rate from salvaging could also be increased.

I am at max crafting in everything except 500 in artificer and the only issues I have ever had are wood shortages. I think the recipes for wood refinement are messed up. How on earth can it take 3 logs to make a single plank? In real life you get several planks from a single log. How can it take several planks to make a single weapon? It takes less ingots/ore to make a greatsword blade than it takes wood to make a staff rod.

First off Armorsmithing needs Gossamer too and a lot more of it than the ore. The insignia are the same craft across all three armor professions. The only thing that needs ore is about half of the components (ie shoe casing).

Now about getting the cloth and leather scraps. I did always wonder why it had to be only from salvaging. But to gather it via a “node”? Shall we all raid sheep and cow farms? I’d only suggest upping the T6 proc rate on salvaging. I think they’re just expecting people to have a surplus of the scraps due to the new salvage everything for luck binge most everyone is on.

I would be fine if wool must come from sheep, silk from worms, gossamer from spiders, and jute, linen, cotton are the harvestable nodes. But we still need a way to get leather from animal hides. If that is just through drop rates instead of skinning then fine but a skinning knife would be fun too.

easy solution would be MF recipie to downgrade some mats. I have 2 alts stuffed with silk and nothing to do with it :/

There should be an increased supply of all mats. Everyone and their mother is salvaging for account magic find. This yields a lot of crafting mats (which were just npc-ed along with the item before). The lower wood/metals/leather (to a lesser extent) are being eaten by the weapon crafting atm, but there is nothing eating up the cloth. The only reason it’s gone up in price is that people are prepping/speculating on it for ascended armor very early. After all this settles down the prices should drop (since ascended armor isn’t being introduced any time soon).

Before ascended crafting almost all tiers of cloth and leather were at vendor price with millions and millions of excess. People bought them all in preparation for armor crafting. There is an oversupply of these items, they certainly don’t need to make them drop more.

I know I am personally holding onto 10k silk, and 1k of all other tiers of cloth in preparation. I will hopefully up my stock to 2k before it goes live.

This. Though I understand the OP, harvesting something for organic stuff feels weird. Currently the crafting system is broken. You have to create lots of exotics to level. Theses exotics are unnecessary expensive. They were made to be the pinnacle of items. Which they aren’t anymore. ArenaNet should have made crafting exotics far less laborious with the last patch and all the talking about grinding would be different. It doesn’t hurt to make crafting ascended as difficult as it is, but it serves no greater purpose to keep exotic crafting now as it is.

I nearly collected the fun out of this game, leveling my first crafter to 500. Normally I am a craft-o-holic, but the current way to do 400 to 500 is uselessly expensive and kills any crafting fun out of the game.

Let them do with ascended armor whatever they like, with the current system I will ignore it for sure. And the OP text is one of the reasons why: another long time RNG. You can’t even grind the resources, there are no nodes for it. And no, I won’t salvage thousands of greens and blues for it or pay hundreds of gold. Where is the fun in doing this? And should this game not be fun after all?

So the drop rate of T6 stuff has to increase dramatically or better yet, the crafting cost of T6 stuff has to decrease noticable.

Farm Gold Buy Mats…same old mindless follow the herd mentality. If you read my initial post completely you would have read i am interested in a way to gather and harvest mats regardless if it can be done by just spending gold. Heaven forbid we have options in how we want to play even if it takes 13.876534% more effort than joining the zerg train and endlessly farming gold. It would be 1000000% more fun for some of us to do the gathering ourselves.

I dunno, I think that between containers (Moldy Bags, etc.), near-useless white armor, and salvageable hide/cloth scraps, leather and cloth drops are fine. I would maybe tweak the drop/salvage rates of a couple of tiers (the tier that uses cotton, for example…that type of cloth seems to always be in shorter supply for some reason). Also, the ability to salvage bags would be nice. There’s really nothing else to do with those 5-slot bags that drop from champs, after all.

The resources that I always have supply problems with are: 1) wood, for the plank processing issue that someone mentioned above, and 2) cooking ingredients that are only chance drops from herb nodes, such as Chili Peppers and Lemongrass.
