Revert the soft wood recipe to 3 per plank
It annoys me too to have to put so much time or gold into this one material. However, the reason it bothers me is that it is very, very hard for those just starting crafting to get past the soft wood stage right now. Especially peope who are new to the game as well.
I think John Smith was a little trigger-happy when he changed soft wood and iron ore requirements to make soft wood planks, iron ingots, and steel ingots. The change was made shortly after release because there was a surplus of those materials in the economy, because most players were at the point where they were playing and gathering almost entirely in zones with soft wood and iron ore nodes. We’ve gotten far beyond that point, and it no longer makes sense for these materials to be a crafting anomaly.

Agreed. It was a good idea then but now it’s counterproductive. It should be switched back.
That’s even more stupid since you never get critical gathering (when you get 2 instead of 1) on wood and there aren’t any rich wood gathering nodes.

There actually IS critical gathering for wood

Can confirm. Crit wood just gives 2 procs of 1 wood, instead of stacking them as a [2 Soft Wood Logs]
pretty sure it’s 20
Spiritwood planks require 20 soft wood, 10 seasoned wood and 20 hard wood planks (and the obligatory golb of elder spirit residue).
There’s various other threads about this already, but I doubt you’re going to catch the attention of a dev to get it changed back.
