Lvl 80 Axes : Rare: 483; Exotic: 4 – Frostfang: 0
Lvl 80 Swords : Rare: 20; Exotic: 0 – Zap: 0
Over the past couple of days I run some tests for Mystic and Master Salvaging Kits attempting to salvage “Rare Materials” from Green Lvl 80 Light Armor.
According to the description of the salvaging kits they should yield 25% return for Gossamer Scraps – out of the many hundreds of items I have salvaged using these kits (over 500 in the last 24 hours) I am seeing a yield of less than 3%.
Now before anyone starts trolling that it is 25% per item – I am fully aware of how statistics work, I used to teach inferential statistics at university – but over a larger sample the rate should start to approach 25% that is how the laws of statistics work – 500 is not a -huge- sample but it is large enough that I should be seeing more than a 3% yield.
So my question is, has anyone got any data contrary to this or is everyone finding that the salvage rate on gossamer with master and mystic tools is incredibly low?
On a side note, it is a really annoying test to run because you have to confirm everykittensalvage with an extra click.
Also, please don’t do the whole “but greens will yield less than yellows which in turn will yield less than golds” trolling either because I have tried smaller numbers of yellows and golds and found similar results but they are entirely too expensive to do a larger test on.
Gossamer scraps aren’t rare materials though.
They are white – common.
For the purpose of salvaging it is my understanding that all T6 mats are classed as Rare Materials. That is certainly the impression I have from the many posts I have read on these issues.
Examples:
Rare materials: Totem, Vial of Blood, Claw, Fang
Common materials: Jute Scrap, Mithril Ore, Ancient Wood Log
It does not matter if it’s t1, t2 … or t6 material.
It would have to be yellow in order to be classified as rare.
Cisza – if what you are describing is correct then the Salvaging Tools are definitely broken because I have -never- had Totem, Vial of Blood, Claw, Fang etc. from salavaging any weapon or any armor with any Salvaging Kit.
Zahdane – See above.
Again, everything I have read regards tier 6 crafting materials (Orichalcum and Gossamer) as Rare for the purpose of salvaging and the evidence from actually salvaging supports that.
I also did never get any t6 material from antyhing below 70 level, and you can buy “better” salvagi kits from 15+ level zones. What’s the point in using any other salvage kit than the basic one? The only reason whould be using Master/BLT salvage kit on 68+ rares/exotic for a chance on Ecto.
From what I’ve found, those kits only increase your chance of finding the “upgrade” component. Usually this means salvaging the sigil, rune, or ecto. You’re still going to get the plain old cloth or metal from it.
So you ask, what’s the use of a master’s salvage kit? Well, peeling the rune off of my lvl 75 rare staff, I used a master’s salvage kit. Getting an ecto? Same thing. For anything else (especially those scraps of metal and cloth garments), use a basic kit.
Are you salvaging a LOT in sequence? Because, diminishing returns and all that jazz.
Wouldn’t be surprised if AN has some sort of system dropping that chance by 1/10th each attempt after a certain # of salvages … which would eventually bring that 25% chance down to 2.5% chance.
Just a theory based on the DR I’ve been seeing elsewhere when gathering (not a complaint FYI, just saying, DR is a very real factor in this game)
So you ask, what’s the use of a master’s salvage kit
No, I’m asking what’s the use of any other salvage kit than Crude and Master/BL.
What moonpuncher has stated is the way I go. If it’s a yellow or higher and I am simply searching for the ecto = master salvage kit. If it’s the rune that I want to keep = Black lion kit, if it is a blue or a green or a white = basic kit.
I get gossemer and och ore as often with the basic as I have the master so I switched it to this method.
Consider this a savings of gold to all of you.
Should you wish to pass some of those savings on to Moonpuncher and I you are welcome to do so
I always use a Mystic Salvage Kit when I break down items. I believe the “Rare” classification is not fine crafting materials, but the next tier of materials. I have salvaged a blue jute item and ended up with a couple of wool scraps before. You never get fine crafting materials from salvage. Globs of ecto seem to have the same frequency to drop with the Mystic kit as runes do, so no, I don’t think those are the rare materials either.
Gossamer is painfully rare to find. It’s sad that the best way to get it is to use the Trading Post or to complete the Cursed Shore and beyond zones. Even then, I got 40 green onions instead of Gossamer. I was a very sad plant.
I agree that the salvage kits don’t seem to work as advertised. I don’t see any reason to use high level kits unless you want to pull out an upgrade.
The higher kits gives higher chance for “rareR” not “rare” materials. So if you salvage a lv68 you have a higher chance of getting gossamer instead of silk.
