I’m not sure if this is bug, description misinformation or just my fault but here is the thing: So far I haven’t received ANY rare material whatsoever. And yes I’m salvaging like hell, I have like 1000 items salvaged. The description of kits says that you have like 10-25% chance of salvaging rarer materials depending on the quality of your kit. So why I havent received any rare material from salvaging in my life?

I even bought the best kit and tried salvaging with that but with no results, so now Im just buying the most crappy one because there is no point in buying the better ones (well only for the upgrade removal).
My only explanation is that you get rare materials from salvaging rare items. Well I tried that too. I salvaged like five 80lvl rares and got only normal materials I get from grey items salvaging with grey kit. So it’s bugged or the chance of getting rare material is really so low? I mean if I get like 1 rare materials from 10 rare 80lvl items I can just sold them in the trading house for few golds together and than buy rare materials for cheapier prize. Anyhow there would be no point in salvaging rares anyway if it isn’t bugged

I’ve got 2 rare crafting mats taking up bank space that I received from salvaging, and I only have two characters at level 29 and 11, so at least in my experience, they do drop occasionally.

They do drop occasionally. However I don’t think they drop enough for the investment in the highest level salvage kit. I think that they should recover fine materials. Not just rare also. After all that is why some of us are trying the higher salvage kits thinking they will drop fine materials. But I don’t think they do.

Can we get a post from a dev here?
I know how salvage used to work back in GW, but this is diffrent.
The salvage kits obviously states that it has a percentage for rarer materials.
What exactly does this mean?
I suppose rare are the yellow+ materials , but I have only gained some from salvaging rare items.
Some people claim that (e.g) at 80 level armors of white rarity, you have a better chance to get orichalcum , but orichalcum is “basic” exactly as mithril that you have a chance to obtain from higher level items.
So when I salvage something white, I guess I am only to get white, does it up the tier of the material?
Some more info on the salvage kits please….

I’ve completed the salvaging achievement, and I’ve gotten the followup salvage achievement twice (just to illustrate how much I’ve salvaged).

Of all those salvages, I’ve gotten a non-white crafting material once. It was a piece of jewelry I salvaged, and I got a gem off of it.

I’ve had zero other “rarer” crafting material drops from salvaging.

“Rare Materials” does not only mean rare (yellow) components. ANY tier 6 material (Orichalcum, Gossamer, etc) is “rare.”

I always assumed that the description meant that if you salvage an item that would normally give you jute, for example, you’d have a X% chance of getting wool (or iron if it would normally give copper, etc.) They could be toally wrong, but I thought it had to do with the teir of the material not the color (white, blue, green, yellow, etc.)

@Allyhoo – that was my impression also. I only use the master kits when I’m trying to get an upgrade out of an item, but even the basic salvage kits have occasionally given me higher tier materials out of low level stuff.
