Should I drop weapon/armor for cooking?

Should I drop weapon/armor for cooking?

I tried leveling up both armor and weapon, and its almost impossible to have enough monster drop to support both, so I’m thinking of dropping either and level up cooking instead.

So I need advice if I should stop weaponsmith, or armorsmith in favor of cooking?

Thanks.

The best way to level a discipline is to do other stuff, assemble gold, and just buy the materials you need from the trading post. That being said, Weaponsmith is probably the most expensive one to max. Darksteel ingots cost a lot to make, and the materials are pricey too. Armorsmith wasn’t that bad if I remember correctly. Cooking however, is currently the cheapest discipline to max (If you buy all the cooking ingredients from TP you would spend around 1.5g to max cooking).

That being said, it really depends on why you’re leveling your discipline in the first place. Do you want to make the best items? If so, then I hate to break it to you, but it’s usually cheaper to just buy the item from trading post than to craft it. If you’re looking at the craftprice and buyprice.

If you want to make a legendary, then I don’t see the need for a change, you’ll get level 400 discipline eventually. And it’s actually the least of your worries.

It really depends on what you think your main character will use – if it’s armor then stick with Armorsmith. Before you decide, take a look at the type of armor you want for your character and then look it up on the Trading Post. Then decide if it would be worth it for you to level Armorsmith to make the armor you want or to buy it as a set or as separate pieces from the Trading Post.

Same applies to Weaponsmith. Decide what weapon do you want and then price it on the trading post and compare how much it would be to buy it or level the trade and make it.

Cooking seems like it would be easy because of all the all cooking ingredients you get via drops and harvesting but it’s not really. It’s a money sink. The cost of jugs of water and condiments all add up. Again price the consumables you’re after on the trading post.

So, go with the trade that will give you then end product that you want for your main character and stick with that.

Thanks for the answers.

Initially I leveled armorsmith and weaponsmith just for the sake of it. I certainly got all my gear through trading as those crafting can never keep up with my levels anyway.

But for cooking there are foods that I could use all the time, so I’m thinking that IF its cheaper, then perhaps I can level cooking and eventually craft those foods myself.

Just keep in mind that cooking will absolutely destroy your banking/inventory slots. Unless you plan to just crank out 1-400 all at one time.

Keep at it, my main is Jewel/Weapon and it took a long time! I went back and completed side zones and even some lower zones just to get all the ore I needed. I want to get 100% map so it didn’t bother me in the slightest.

Now i’m 400 in both and have crafted the exotics I wanted, and my bank alt is 21 and has 391 cooking :P
