So is crafting worth it yet?
You got right, whole system of crafting is totaly usless and broke, im waiting for major crafting patch to change state of this.

first of all, you can make a profit using all crafting professions. it might not be where you would think, but it makes sense if you think about it.
the consumables, those are, and always will be profitable, since people use them for a limited time only. swords and armor do not break, so once a person has there armor they will never buy your items again, but consumables are limited time, and therefor there is a lot more demand.
now, about the leveling part, there is this neat website i know
http://www.gw2crafts.net/
this website gives you the cheapest way to level any profession from 0-400 or per tier if you want. as far as i know it never costs more then 5gold to level a profession to 400.
Crafting can be a brilliant, guarenteed money, and likely the best outside TP playing that doesn’t require luck.
You find most people farming COF P1, which with average luck will be ~6g per hour. Naturally I’m not spilling methods, but I’m currently making ~15g+ an hour from a craft, and I know there are methods using crafts that go even higher than that.
Ought to reconsider if crafting is worth it, as it clearly is.
All that aside, you need 2 certain crafts for each Legendary.

I honestly don’t understand the point of crafting.
You level so fast in this game that in order to craft gear for yourself to use, you’d have to go back and farm materials in low-level areas for far too long (You’d only end up leveling yourself to the point where you can’t USE what you’ve crafted).
Add to that the fact that the quest rewards and dropped items found in combat are just as good as what can be crafted and you have very little reason to craft anything for yourself or others.
Using the Auction House to sell (or buy) gear is a moot point for most of the same reasons.
Cooking may be considered a useful skill due to the wide variety of buffs it can give, but the temporary nature and excessive AMOUNT of eatables out there makes finding the right bite to eat a cumbersome prospect. That, and the fact that only one type of meal can be in effect at a time kind of makes the wide variety available to us a little pointless.
Would you consider a change where foods had their buffs greatly reduced, but you could have several in effect at once? This could give players the ability to choose their own “Meal” before heading out into the fray, as well as giving chefs more reason to create and use/sell a wider variety of of their goods.
You could try breaking foods into more basic categories: Appetizer/snack, Main course, Dessert, and Drink. You then have the players able to have one of each type active at once.
This could also be used to deepen the cultural diversity of the various peoples; different races have different styles and even eating habits (The Charr have different recipes for steak which are considered to be Snacks, Meals and Desserts).
The consumables for each craft are a reasonably good idea for making crafting viable, but unless you start making some materials, gear, and otherwise useful items obtainable ONLY through crafting, then crafting will never really be very useful to players.
I personally wouldn’t mind having many of the recipes available in each craft to require ingredients made by OTHER crafts. That would encourage players to work together more, and would make crafting more viable for the players.
It would also bolster every individuals ability to contribute to the Auction House.
This would especially be the case if the required materials were NOT equated by crafting level— I’d love to see an exotic, high-end crafting recipe require a few basic tidbits from the low-end spectrum of another crafting class.
As it is now, there is no real incentive to get into crafting— it’s not even that fun.
This is the first game I’ve played where crafting for profit is not really worth the effort. Let me clarify this statement. In other games you could sell something crafted (armor/weapons) for prices like the legendary items go for. I doubt that can happen here so far. No critical success, no chance to make something better than originally decided by the recipe, etc. I do see some worth in consumables, and jewelry. I have mastered crafting in every other mmo that offered it that I have played. I threw my hands up here. Sold my mats and banked the cash.
That said there is worth in gathering and selling mats, this would make you think there must be worth in crafting. Well since you can sell stuff right away to the BLTC and not wait for players to buy it, you can make money in game, from the sale of materials.
I have a feeling crafting was an after thought here. The old system in GW1 was more fun, you needed to gather special mats and then go to the npc and have it made. I miss that system, but who knows some here may really like the crafting system. To me it’s muddled and poorly implemented.
Sorry Anet, I love the game, but crafting.. D- must do better. I liked the system in SWTOR, my companions ground out the levels lol.
P.S. Crafting in any game is user supplied content. They made the hall, you supply the band and dancers. It’s something to do. If you like it, go for it.

Personally I just like crafting…not really for profit but just crafting stuff makes me happy (?) And selling them at the tp even tho they worth nothing at lower lvl lol…..maybe I like it cuz this game feels like oline version of skyrim to me
It is pure profit if you knew what I do with jeweler.
Ever notice how valuable berserker gear is? I sell exquisite ruby jewels for 58+ s each and it only costs me 28 s average to make the said jewels. I made 6 g a day off them before subtracting costs. I will not say exactly how I do it though, but any smart player would figure it out.
The crafting in this game is so dry. However I should specify. There is a great lack of interesting items to craft, at least from professions not mystic forge. But the system of crafting is pretty cool in my opinion. One solution would be to make more “account bound” craftable items. There is no need for me to craft anything if I can buy it on the tp. Plus there are only a small circle of cool craftable weapons, food, etc. A lot of it takes on the generic weapon skin and looks bad. If there were account bound weapons, foods, tonics, or armors that were craftable, it would be very motivating. Also, they should include many more recipes in the game for unique, possibly account bound, craftable items.
If crafting is always profitable, I’ll just craft 1000 of the same item and undercut everyone of you.
I think finding ways to stop people from mass production is a good step.
Take for example I find a jewel craft recipe from a dungeon. And I can make money of it, since there is far less competition.
Doing dragons/events, dungeons, and laurels has replaced crafting. There used to be a few items I could farm material, craft and sell but, now there is at lease 50 of everything on the TP. It’s now so full, nothing even sells anymore and then only at a lost. Other than a few food items I craft for my own use, crafting is just a useless broken mess.
1 – Loot the recipe of Nightmare Coil
2 – Enjoy free money
Crafting can be a brilliant, guarenteed money, and likely the best outside TP playing that doesn’t require luck.
Naturally I’m not spilling methods, but I’m currently making ~15g+ an hour from a craft, and I know there are methods using crafts that go even higher than that.

I find that strange considering…
No crafts are really profitable. Any that are would be abused to an unprofitable state.

I enjoy crafting in any game and would happy just making things for my own use, although it’s also nice to make things for guildies if you’re in a guild. As for pace, I don’t any reason to push it beyond what you enjoy. The whole point of playing is for fun after all.
ohh boy this topic but anyways yes there is a possibility of making profit but the real question is supply demand and is their a buyer? lets jsut take this example
corrupted shield
sells for 29g89s00c weapon to craft 3g10s00c loadstones 1g35s00c X15=20g25s00c total cost is 23g35s00c so the profit made before tax is 6g54s00c after first inishal sell (putting up on TP) 1g49s45c then when itom sells agine it will triggure another tax sell of 1g49s45c. now your total profit is 3g55s10c trading post takes a 5% tax or a 1c tax depending on sell item.
now i gave an average of load stones sell or buy out right and took the shield compo-nut of what the value at the time was. the market always changes.
