Has anyone else noticed that it takes 4 soft wood logs to make 1 soft wood plank where as every other one is 3 to 1? Why is it higher than the others? Is it really that much easier to find?

There was a change a while back that increased the number of Soft Wood Logs needed to make planks to 4, and only Soft Wood Logs. Why this was done I have no idea…

It was done soon after release, mainly because there was a huge oversupply of them. Look at the graph on spidy and hit “all” so you can see the timeframe soon after release.

Considering the oversupply was most likely due to everyone farming/leveling in early zones, I don’t see why they haven’t reverted the change. Could be that this is a healthy balance from the market’s point of view.

Tier 2 materials are available in more areas of the game and are easy to farm at any level beyond 15. While, T2 ore is used to craft both T2 & T3, T2 wood is only used in T2 crafting. Thus, less places used up but still the largest potential source of raw wood. Result was a glut of T2 wood so Anet fixed it on the refinement side (I guess it kind of makes sense that softer wood requires more material to make the same refined product)?
