Story Time.

I’ve had a bad day.
I wanted to get some soldiers weapons for my Mesmer, and after failing many times in the WvW jumping puzzles (I normally have no difficulty at all), I finally got the couple more I need to get them…… only to purchase them on the wrong bloody character.

So, now short 462 badges, I now had to find a new source.
Dungeons would take a really long time as usual, and I don’t care for the skins.

But I saw a glimmer of hope that Soldiers is now craftable, great, when did this happen?

Trading post seems a tad expensive, so I figured I would just craft it instead, and I was close to 400 anyway. So a 30 or so minutes later I’m at 400……. only to find out that no, you can’t actually craft them, you can’t make the parts to create Soldiers, but instead for some insane reason you only get the parts from salvaging Exotic soldiers equipment.

Whaaa? Who? Why, why on earth would you have a @ss backwards system like this?
Either make it available to be crafted, or don’t!

It’s the one thing the puts me off crafting altogether, it these insane hidden rules of what can or can’t be crafted. It’s so kitten counter intuitive and aggravating.
Half the time I don’t know whether or not I am going to be allowed to craft what I want anymore.

I feel your pain. Soul bound on purchase is a bit of an anachronism given the direction the game has taken. The only currency that is soulbound now is skill points, so now that sort of thing falls into the “annoying oversight” category as far as I’m concerned.

As for craftable soldiers items, that’s another oddity thanks to the history of the game. They want to make ascended soldiers items craftable so that’s why they the made the inscriptions salvageable. Unfortunately that means prices are pretty high as they are hard to obtain, averaging about seven dungeon runs per inscription.

A word of warning, soldiers weapons that have been crafted won’t yield the inscription, so have to be careful of what you are buying if you intend to use salvage. It is probably safer to buy the inscription, especially if you think that there is a chance the RNG gods hate you.

The salvaged inscriptions are the cheapest ones in the game.
You could craft a Giver’s Inscription, sell that to the highest buyer. Use the gold to buy the Solider’s from the lowest seller and you will still come out with more gold than you started with.

Just relax, everything you do will mean something in the future.

Oops, you’re right. Even taking in to account the fact that you need 5 ectos with salvaged inscriptions they are still the cheapest.
