Q:
Southsun Cove and Orichalcum Nodes
Most nodes shift after a patch/update in every zone but there are some static nodes which are not affected like the ori node in karka cave in southsun, rich copper node in wayfarers JP etc.
There used to be a website where players mapped certain high end nodes to help others mine/gather from but the site is rarely used now
OP is stating changes in location NOT due to patch updates. That’s a bit weird.
I have seen this behavior in Malchor’s Leap before, about a month and a half ago.
Every node on the map was in a different place each day. No updates or patches. It was a little weird.
Will place a toon in southsun to check this out
I have been using http://gw2nodes.com/ to mark the locations for my four characters that are farming high end materials.
I can confirm that the locations have changed when I switched characters in the middle of the day (no where near a daily reset, or after an server reset). I am on the Yak’s Bend server.
The ori nodes always change every 1-3 days (on very, very rare occasions they have lasted longer). This has nothing to do with patches. Its always been like this. If you’re on a server where the nodes dont behave like this, well good for you. The only exception to the rule has been the one by the champ karka in SS (which was a rich ori node originally)
A friend of mine has a theory, that the lack of people in a zone will reset resource nodes (exception being static ones). Sounds plausible, since the kitten Soutsun nodes keep moving about.
And I use orrmaps.com as a resource-mapping tool. Been using it for months now, easy to use and can find all maps for a server. Needs a collab function though..

I say your friend is correct. It only happens to zones that lack people during certain times, usually at night. Southsun is even worse because it is empty pretty much all day on some servers.
This just tells me GW2 does not have a permanent world at all as such changes would not be possible. Yet they advertised it as having one.
I usually get mine from Frostgorge and Orr (malchor/cursed). All the nodes stay where they are until a patch. However the overflow map is different, maybe that is what happened?
Orrmaps usually shows me the old locations after a patch, so unless I would wait a day or two …
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
The nodes were changed a while ago to be transient due to botters and scammers that were farming them. This is nothing new. There are some permanent ones, as stated above, but the rest of the nodes move around to prevent the hackers from driving up prices again. Same reason why gathering is always part of the daily now.
All classes, level 80
Dropbear Massacre, Necro Main
3 times reset less than 2 hrs
please focus the problem and fixed it
I dont want waste many of time to finding nodes again and again in daily.
i also experienced it and it sucks especially new patch and everyday also has updates and the nodes keeps changing. also, the location of the nodes will change when i use another character to farm for it at the same time especially at malcors leap and southsun. omg, i have to spend 2-3 hours per day just to find nodes for all my characters.
Really hope developer fix the problems, changes of nodes once a week is recommended and not every updates. It’s so time consuming…
Like Brigg said.
This is a deliberate ArenaNet strategy to stop/slow down the botters and hackers from auto farming with third party programs.
So it is a slight inconvenience to human gatherers. So what? Sorry to say, but it might be time to build that bridge.
