Casual Tears….

Excuse me? I have over 7k hours in game. I’m hardly a casual player.
You and I used to play on RoF together, a whole lot of WvW.
I guess you’ve forgotten that?
So you have 7k hours and have been unable to use that time to farm gold for one where someone who spends less time than you can?
As people earn more gold by farm, bringing more gold into the system, they have more to throw at precursors, causing prices to go up. Working as intended.
Excuse me? I have over 7k hours in game. I’m hardly a casual player.

You know what this tells me … you can’t even earn an average of 50s per hour of play (=3500 g for your 7K hours of play) to get a legendary. What are you doing with your time?
Nice, if the price stays there it might actually be worth forging again.

What made you think I don’t have one? I never said that.
I have Dawn on my mesmer. I also have ascended weapons on most of my characters, most of them with reasonably rare skins from the forge. I have ascended armor on one character, all crafts maxed and 15k achieve points. I play this game a LOT, but mostly WvW which is no way to get rich in this game.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
You are not using your time efficiently. I have 4250 hours played and I have made 6 legendaries, 2 full ascended armor sets(heavy and light), 2 full sets of ascended trinkets and filled in the gaps of my non legendaries with ascended weapons. Also have all available crafts to 500 minus leatherworker. And yeah pvping is not a way to get rich. If you had pve’d like I do, you probably could have made all this easily too.
Am I legendary yet!?

Still worth it. Just saying.
I am “That” guy you have all heard about.
1,073 precursors forged and counting.

You talk like it but your right, I assumed too much. Still, Legendary isn’t something people need, so if someone doesn’t earn enough to get one, tough. Thread is silly.
Great, 99.9% of your play time is to farm.

Not sure if sarcasm but … just playing the game gets you the rewards needed to work towards a Legendary if you want it.

Eh for several months in there the margins were too low to be worth the time and risk – no need to risk blowing up for a 10% RoI, I’d rather just sell rare greatswords.
At today’s 25-30% I’ll bite.

Actually yes and no. I used to farm Orr events like Plinx and the other 2 in the tunnel a lot before they changed it all by adding timers and champ mobs. But to tell you the truth, I spent more time doing dungeons. And of course the FG champ train. You have 2 choices in this game, if you want a legendary faster, you need to farm like it’s a job. If you don’t really care about it that much, then just play the game normal and you will have one in about a year. The problem I see like I’ve stated before is that people want instant gratification but don’t want to do the work for it like mindless grinding. Well I got news for you people, if they implement a way to craft precursors, you can bet it isn’t gonna be something as easy as a 1-2 week run around collect things. It’s gonna be as bad or worse than grinding for gold now.
Am I legendary yet!?
I think the problem is exactly that, if you play this game normally, you really won’t earn that much money.
If you play(farm) it like a job, you won’t have too much problem getting a legendary.
Quite honestly, if farming is all that left in GW2, it’s kind of sad what this mmorpg turned into.
Yes you will. I’ve played normally at earned at least 10 gold a night without really trying.
Problem is almost all MMOs have the same basic format, farm X pretty much the whole time you play. Whether it be “flags” to access more raid content and raid gear like EQ1, EQ2, AoC, WoW or just farming gold to buy/upgrade gear like Lineage 2, Aion, Tera or in GW2 case, farm for skins. Bottom line is you either farm for a faster “reward” or play casual for the same “reward” but on a much slower scale.
I’ve played all those games I listed and to be honest, GW2 is the most relaxing of all of them. All the other MMOs I was in large upper end raid guilds where you had to raid 6 hours a day 4-5 days a week and you had to stay current with all the flags and “essentials” of raiding. At least in GW2, you don’t need legendaries to stay competitive. They offer easier ways like ascended weapons and even exos are only a few points below that and don’t really require anything to get them other than a pulse and know how to push a couple buttons and dodge.
If a legendary is really that hard for people to get, then said people should probably just give up on the idea and either quit or just have fun, play casual and one day you will eventually make one.

I think he made that post because the recent precursor crying on the forums is hard to bear.
Don’t have the gold to get a precursor? Don’t go for a legendary or work on it. Done..
You are not using your time efficiently…. (snip)
….If you had pve’d like I do, you probably could have made all this easily too.
Son, this is a game. If you want to “use your time efficiently”, turn the game off and go do something useful.
And if you really enjoy playing against a brain dead AI, with a group of brain dead players who insist that there is only one useful build, well…. Enjoy yourself, but that’s not for me.
Now of course someone who hasn’t read this thread is going to come along and try to tell me that I don’t deserve a Legendary because I’m not willing “to do the work”.

It’s less people complaining that they can’t afford a precursor at this moment and more people complaining that the price keeps climbing, and at a pretty quick rate, too.
There is no set goal for a precursor: you either get lucky via drop or Mystic Toilet (no progress ever gets made) or you farm away and watch as the price keeps climbing while you work toward crossing a finish line that keeps running away.
If they do implement a precursor crafting/scavenger hunt, I’d be ecstatc regardless of what it entails, because now there is a definite goal for me to work toward. I know exactly what I have to do, then, even if it is more work than getting the three gifts combined.

Son? If I’m your son, I really would hate to know your age. And by using time “efficiently”, it means doing the things in game that earn the most gold the fastest. So for example running quick dungeons vs running around Metrica killing level 2 mobs. Unfortunately PVP is not a very efficient way to make gold which if you want a legendary in a couple months, you will have to do the “braindead” PVE since that is the best way to make gold. So it boils down to either do the stuff to make the most gold the fastest even if you don’t want to do it or do the stuff you want but then don’t complain about how it’s so hard to get a precursor because if you do the fastest gold farms, it’s really not that hard to farm up the gold.
And there is no “deserving” a legendary. You want one, you grind gold whatever way is fastest. No one is “entitled” to a legendary. A lot of people want to claim I have X time in game, I should have a legendary. No you shouldn’t. You want one that bad, then grind your kitten off and get one.
I mean don’t get me wrong, I do think the prices on precursors is crazy but that’s the way it is. I accept it and just find ways to make it work. Having craftable precursors will just put the bottleneck somewhere else, my guess is would be on super high priced T6 mats but that’s a different topic.

Getting a legendary in 2-3 months IS a job pretty much which means you need to play efficiently and maximize your time unless you play 18 hours a day. Which in that case, you can play however cause you will have so many hours logged in that even if you farmed Metrica Province, you could make enough gold. However, playing the game the way you want for a year is “fun” and you will get a legendary, just not in 2-3 months. Pick your poison.

It’s less people complaining that they can’t afford a precursor at this moment and more people complaining that the price keeps climbing, and at a pretty quick rate, too.
As far as i know, the average rate for forging a precursor has been stable since start, in fact, it has been buffed once. Unless Anet severely lowered the droprates for mats and ingredients that are used for forging precursors (t5 and t6 common and rare mats, rare and exotic weapons), it has been pretty stable.

And yet, we have multiple precursors now breaking 1k gold on the trading post.
The thing with the Mystic Toilet is that it’s an expensive gamble with long odds. Even if they tripled the current precursor forge rate, I would not think it worthwhile to try for a precursor that way by buying/crafting exotics. It is extremely likely you go backwards for meeting your goal because there is no such thing as progress when it comes to Zommoros.
Dungeon tokens? Sure, I’ll drop those on exotics and toss them in when I have enough. Any other exotics? Unless it was a drop of the appropriate type, forget it.
Yes you will. I’ve played normally at earned at least 10 gold a night without really trying.
That is like getting a legendary after playing a year without actually spending any money for other things
I think the unrealistic things is you wont’ spend money on other things.

All the people I used to farm money with quit the game after they get their legendary. I’m not sure what silly goal it is. Doing things they don’t like for a piece of skin.
If they dont’ like the game, they should quit before they get their legendary.

I was talking with a friend about this earlier today. While they haven’t messed with the drop rates to the best of my knowledge, they have made changes that shifted the player population around quite a bit. In particular, the old Queensdale champ train was kicking out a lot of boxes, usually containing T5 and T6 fine materials.
Granted, I don’t have the data to know for sure, but that train was absolutely spewing a lot of materials onto the market, and I suspect they aren’t being replaced by whatever those players are doing now. We may be seeing higher prices on fine materials and their products as a result of that supply shock.
I’m boring enough to take the liberty doing nothing but asking people’s player level when doign queensdale train.
no queensdale train does not split much of T5 or T6 material. Since most people are smart enough to only do queensdale when they are lower level.
If they really want higher level material, they would have do frostgauge train. But either way, those train are nerfed and gone.

Very true.
Supposing 10 gold a day on some of the more sought after precursors and legendaries, it’d take years.
Not to mention missed days, or less fruitful ones.
I don’t raid, I barely fractal, and I suck beyond words at PvP and WvW.
But I try, and that’s what counts.

Honestly, I really don’t care about this subject because its the same old, but….. You’re missing one key point, the price is continuing to climb. By that 150 days, the rate will have gone up. Don’t forget to take that into account.
Just saying.

Actually, no. People fail to realize why the price has been increasing. For example, people have complained why the price has changed dramatically from the beginning of the year and incorrectly blame inflation. That’s also what you’re hinting at with your statement that prices will continually climb. While they will climb due to natural inflation, they will not climb at such a rate that players cannot keep up.
The most recent price spike in precursors was from the April update that brought in the wardrobe. This created a demand spike which resulted in price increases. You can also look back in November 2012 where a large number of players received precursors from the chest at the end of the karka event. This increased the supply and caused prices to drop.
You have to look more closely into the reason what is causing prices to increase rather than simply focus on prices alone.
I think it’s funny that people keep saying farm gold to get your legendary, when in practice because gold keeps getting introduced to the economy, the price will keep rising. If you farm the average amount, you won’t lose ground, but you won’t gain any either.

Except not everyone will farm gold because it requires too much effort. People make that argument that it would just cause inflation discount that fact that I mentioned that relatively few people would do it. Otherwise, you’d see inflation being a large issue today which it isn’t.
Also, most of your gold that you farmed isn’t newly created gold but gold you gained from selling drops on the TP. Gold you get from karma farming, Orr farming, node farming, etc come from the drops you sell on the TP.
Also, increasing the money supply doesn’t necessarily result in inflation.

Inflation is a large issue. I see people arguing about it all the time. Look at the price of gems. They have gone up incredibly since the game has launched, just like the prices of precursors. Is it because less people are buying gems and forging precursors? Maybe, but it’s also because gold is being introduced to the game. I’m a big offender on that because I prefer to run a dungeon than to run events in Cursed Shore, but because of that every 10 minutes my party is doing this 5 gold is introduced to the economy inflating it.

I’ve assembled some quotes for you on the gem exchange, inflation, and such.
There seems to be some confusion:
The currency exchange has a supply of Gems and Gold.If players are converting Gold to Gems, then the Amount of Gold player will receive for their gems goes up.
If players are converting Gems to Gold, then the amount of Gems players receive for Gold goes up.The exchange rate changes based on the scarcity of each supply. You cannot inflate it, it’s an exchange rate. As players purchase in one direction, it entices purchases in the other direction.
As soon as you begin referring to luxury goods as an inflationary issue I start skimming instead of reading. Within the last hour I’ve specifically said that you’re mistaking inflation for what is not inflation. Precursor prices aren’t changing due to inflation.
As a quick aside. Gems in the currency exchange are finite. You may buy gems with real money to your hearts content, but if you don’t put any of them gems into the currency exchange the currency exchange’s stock of gems never changes.
Think of it this way. The government can print as much money as they want, that doesn’t mean your bank account has access to that money. The currency exchange does not have access to gem creation. It has a limited stock that players add and subtract from.
“In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time”
Time for new textbooks; change in money supply is not a change in price level, they are not interchangeable.
The gold to gem rate on the exchange is not a measure of inflation. If you consider how the exchange works and interacts with players you’ll realize that it’s a great measure of only one thing…
Also including a screenshot of a post as it’s from a locked thread.
I don’t know what the big deal with legendary is.
Obviously I want one, but not to the extend some other players will go through.
I remember back in the cof farming days, I would do 7 hours a day cof run with some friends. They probably find farming pretty boring, so everyday they’ll complain about how boring it is, yet their continue farming on and on just for the legendary. When I told them I dont’ really care about legendary, they’ll ask me why am I farming, and keep asking me over and over again… “is it fun”.
I suppose none of them find it fun, so after they get their legendary… “all of them quit the game”.
If getting a legendary is the sole reason for you to play the game, and you don’t enjoy the farming… I suggest you find a different game.
