Split stack problem!
Try splitting stacks without the use of the discovery panel. It offers the inventory window for convenience, but kind of shoots itself in the foot when it comes to using items from that inventory window. It puts them back in the bank, as you say.
So to remedy this, open your inventory separately with the discovery window open as well, and alt-click-drag from the bank to the inventory window instead of the discovery inventory panel.
It’s slightly buggy in that regard, and I’m not sure it’s ever worked as intended either.

Are there any recipes that even require this?
Discovery in crafting isn’t the same as the Mystic Forge. Items can be crafted using UP TO 4 slots, but 4 separate items aren’t required.
I’m curious to know if any normal crafting recipes require the same item in 2 or more slots of the discovery window.

Not as far as I’m aware, using the same items in the discovery pane would go against the coding of the craft, to my knowledge. All items must be different thus accommodating a certain recipe.
The only place this isn’t true is the mystic toilet where you can throw 4 of any similar weapon, armour, trinket, food, etc. and you’re likely to get the same one back again. The toilet is the only place where all 4 slots must be used to complete a recipe, but in the discovery pane at a crafting station, only 2-4 are needed, again depending on the requirements of the recipe.

Hello there,
OK. I am splitting stacks with alt+drag to an empty slot. But whenever i try to make a discovery in the discovery table, the stack appear as one again. I have tried to put them in bank, they appear again as one. And i can’t seem to be able to split stacks in the discovery panel. What am i missing guys.

The stacks you split, do they show up as separate stacks in your inventory bags?
Because the discovery window does not actually show separate stacks at all. For example, I have 5 mithril ore in my bank and 5 in my inventory. My discovery panel will read 10, the total of both.
Is this what you meant?
