Another update where the Chefs of Tyria get left behind. It really does bum me out, because of all the crafting diciplines, Chef is the only one I find compelling.

In all the other crafts, your materials are very locked into their level, discovery is linear and predicatable, and you have a fixed number of end results at each level. Oooh look, more dowel rods, more filigree.

Cooking is much more dynamic- ingredients can be useful at any level, discovery is much more experimental (lots more "oooh, what happens if I put this and that together?), and you end up with hundreds of results.

It’d be kinda silly to expect something like Ascended Omnomberry Cake, but it would be nice if there were new ingredients to be harvested, and new recipies to be discovered, so us Chefs weren’t stuck at 400 while other crafts got all the shiny new.

They can’t really add new ingredients realistically without adding new zones/areas for them to grow in, it would be weird just having new ingredients popping up in existing areas. Instead i think they should make more of the stuff you make from cooking more worthwhile to make, the vast majority of the stuff you make to get up to 400 cooking is useful for nothing but vendoring for 1-2 copper each.

I didn’t really do much cooking till about a week ago when i made a guardian and made him a chef but found it extremely addicting just combining random stuff to make things but was always left extremely disappointed with each recipe after seeing it’s stats compared to stuff like the candy corn recipes which are 100 times better and seeing the vast majority of them having the exact same stats as countless other recipes just a different name and icon.

But ya, for me i would prefer them going back to all current food items you make and rework their buffs, make them more unique and some just straight up buff.

I honestly didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to the stats of the things I was cooking, I was having too much fun mixing things.

However, I have 8 characters, and all but 2 of them are level 80 (and only one of those has gone into the Pact storyline), because I always hve them eating something. (it’s a good thing we do lots of running, or I’d have very round characters) A quick and easy 10-15% XP boost readily at hand is a very useful thing.

My guess is that Ascended/Legendary food will involve combining many lower-tier ingredients to help soak up oversupply. For example:

Essence of Berries:
- 250 Blueberries
- 250 Strawberries
- 250 Blackberries
- 250 Raspberries

And then that itself becomes one of the four ingredients needed for an Ascended food item. Perhaps Ascended food buffs last for 1 hour (or even 24 hours?) to justify their cost.

Why would we need more ingredients? Use the basic ingredients to craft a new sub ingredient which in turn will be used in a new recipe.

No thanks. I don’t want to spend 20 gold for 24 hour buff (unless the food provide something extraordinary like +800 MF or +500 of any stat boost). Just no.

I like the idea of ascended buffs. Depending on how much it costs and how long it lasts, I could see a 50% buff on the basic food good. Maybe 100% if it costs a lot.

So an ascended sweet and spicy butternut squash would have 150/200 power and 15%/20% crit damage.

And really, being ascended, I think these buffs should last around 72 hours. It would make it more appealing to craft. Even at playing 10 hours a day, the buff would still last a week of playing on one character. Though, I’d be playing on my alts more often to save time on the buff.

Cooking creates consumable items that are useful. Nothing has changed there. Even after ascended players can eat a good pie and be happy without any grind. Move along, nothing to see here.

Perhaps a permanent food item, consumable once per day that lasts for one hour?
