So i’m really tempted to get those 3 tools…they’re nice. No doubt about it.

But I wonder: If they bring something above Orichalcum will you still be able to use them to gather that new stuff then or will you have to buy new tools? Would be quite nice if there was a definite answer on that before I spend 2400 Gems.

I’m tempted as well to get them for my other 2 toons. I got em for my main but honestly i’m debating on just buying more char slots. While the tools are nice, not sure if I can justify spending 4800 gems for 2 toons when 4800 gems could buy a lot of char slots as well as bank and bag space. And yes, I too wonder if they are gonna introduce a new harvesting tool tier when the T7 stuff comes out.

The T7 mats, as I understand, are gathered through activities such as jumping puzzle/WvW participation rather than gathering nodes, so I think the three harvesting tools will be best in slot.

That’s the impression I got from Colin’s comments on the forums too. Either that, or the T7 materials are going to be compound materials crafted from lower level tier materials, similar to Charged Quartz. In either case, the unlimited gathering tools will still be able to harvest all materials.

I don’t think ANet would pull something like not making the permatools best in slot after releasing the three of them in the vicinity of the new crafting update.

Also, I don’t think that these are going to be harvested, but crafted, as stated above. If there is a harvest mechanic, I assume it would act like quartz, in which you can use any quality of tools to gather, balanced by a 24h time gate.

I wish they would provide a little more information about an update so critical.

AFAIK, T7 won’t be harvested… it will be turned

T7 will be made from lower level mats (or gained from other activities other than harvesting).

Also, and I have no clue where the post is, but I do remember that a dev said at sometime in the past that if a new tier was ever introduced that the unlimited use tools would be able to harvest them. (It may have been around the introduction of quartz, but I really can’t remember). Also that’s just going from my memory.

And buying em ingame is almost as bad at 38g per tool. That would be a lot of ori tools. I will say though, it is convenient, just not sure if it’s $30 convenient :P

Tell me about it, I was able to spend most of my meager gold savings on gems back ~October when the rates were still “good” 1g for 240 gems and later 1g for 120 gems and got all of my bank and bag slots (on my main at least). But I wish I could have foresaw this inflation and invested all I had into gems back then.

Edit: I think I spent ~20-25g ish on the Axe and Sickle (missed the pick the first time around), and if I remember my very rough calculation 100 (mithral) plant harvests a day would take ~5 years to pay off (a 1/4 of that if you can do only ori gathers). Still I don’t really regret it, as the graphic is nice, and more so the convenience of never running out.

they are not stated to be equal to orichalcum but equal to the best toll out there as there stands on them that they can harvest ALL nodes

I’m personally glad I bought the perm harvesting tools because I usually run with my main level 80 with the orichalcum tools. I would NOT harvest low level mats with that because it seemed like a waste. Now I harvest everything, and because of that, I’m considering finally doing some crafting.

I bought gems with real cash for the tools because… well, this game is all I do (like, for entertainment… I have a job and stuff), so it is well worth it to me.

The tool tips say they can gather all resources, I think they would upset the player base if they made a new tier of harvestable mats and these don’t work on them.

For them to keep selling items like this, there has to be a certain level of trust – if they break these a few months after releasing them, their credibility (and future sales) would be diminished.

Make them account bound paleeeeezzzeeee

If you buy the gems, then buy gold with the gems, then buy orichalcum tools with the gold, then go through a whole stack of 100 tools per day… it’ll cost you about what the infinite tools cost. So it’ll be worth it, in the long term.
