The Moot, legendary mace, requires Gem Store?
I have yet to acquire a Box of Fun from other means besides the Gem Store. It does seem rather odd that a Gem Store-only item would be required to make this Legendary. I suppose you could convert gold into gems to buy it, but I’m not sure if that makes sense in the grand scope of things, does it?
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
Well, yes, it’s 5 boxes. Random reward, or gem store. Not that much expensive, compared to the rest but ye, if you didn’t find boxes randomly, buy em.
AFAIK the moot is the only legendary that requires 0 lodestones of any type.
It’s one of, if not the cheapest legendary usable on land (the shield might be cheaper)
I wouldnt be complaining that much o.o
Bifrost doesn’t too.
It isn’t the cost of the item so much as it is the fact that it requires items from a market outside of the normal player-driven, non-irl cash based economy. So I am just wondering if you can randomly get it in the game or is the only way to get a Box of Fun through gems. Depending on people’s desire to spend irl cash to set the price of this weapon seems off.
It just seems odd that it would require that when no other weapon does.
quip also needs that.

You conveniently bypass the fact that you can exchange gold for gems and thus buy the boxes of fun with your in-game cash. Still much cheaper than buying all the lodestones for other legendaries.
Just a hint … I think these boxes can also be forged in Mystic forge try to do some reseach

I.. don’t think so >.> just checked the wiki
Keep in mind you can get gems with gold in game. Those boxes can be aquired using the MF also if im not mistaken.

That’s why they have the Gold to Gems converter.
You need 22 gold for 1000 Gems (roughly)
I paid around 150G+ for my charged lodestones (I farmed some of them)
I mean I’d prefer to pay 22G.

Wiki only lists the recipes that people publically post. It’s not the definitive answer to more obscure recipes.

You guys are missing my point. It isn’t that I can’t spend in game money on the item. It is cheap and that is great. I can use gold to get it and that is great.
The point is that it is tied to an item (gems) whose price is determined by the input of irl cash. Is there any other item that depends on this? IF what was said about the mystic forge is true, then this isn’t an issue because there is a way to get the items through non-gem means.
Not that this would be the case, but let’s say it happened for the sake of this discussion. If no one bought gems OOG anymore, and the supply dried up, wouldn’t it be impossible to craft this item? That is all I am getting at. I don’t think that an item should be tied to something that needs irl cash inputs to exist.
(Please don’t be pedantic and say the game costs irl cash so that means all items in the game are connected to cash inputs)

So where’s the problem

I guess I should go to the design subforum because no one here is understanding the issue presented. Thanks for the effort though guys.
I understand you Gweee and agree – it seems kinda wrong really

I`ll bite, your hypothetical situation could happen but for a second take a step back and see the bigger picture. Lets say the gems arn’t bought anymore and the whole gemstore has gone stagnant. That would point to a game that has gone stagnant and is very near the end of its lifecycle. So basicly, what you say can happen, but the game would be in such a state that i doubt it would be around for long.
As long as the game is played by a normal number of people which would be required for A-net to keep it in business then you will expect to see a % of those ppl still spending money on the gemstore. The situation you sketched then doesnt happen and if it does it doesnt matter much anymore, cept for the last brave souls who refuse to give up on a dying game.
seeing as gems and gold can be traded between one another, and we can buy gems with irl money; that means anything involving gold in the game ties directly to irl money. this whole question seems invalid
You’re right: it’s kinda crappy. And the fact that gem prices in gold will only go up means that the price for these requirements will only go up.
However, the price for most legendaries has only gone up. The precursors went from a pittance early on to hundreds of gold for some, for example. Other mats are rising. The later you start, the further you have to go: period. The people who rushed and got theirs early didn’t have to do as much, and that is their advantage.
In the end, it’s probably better that the cash shop is involved because at least you know the items will always be available – unlike drops, which can be changed at any time.
