With all the hullabaloo over precursors, people get caught up with them specifically and ignore other consequences. For example, consider all the items people ARE getting instead. There are a lot of exotic items with cool unique skins that can only be obtained randomly through the mystic forge. Hypothetically these items would be rare, but if you look at the trading post they’re dirt cheap. Because they’re the waste product of precursor attempts, the supply of them is far exceeding demand so the price goes down and down while the quantity goes up and up.

ANet needs to rethink how people will obtain these items, because an oversupply of items is just as lame as an undersupply of them.

Nice. Cheap top tier weapons as a waste product of people going for expensive top tier weapons. I’m not complaining. Now to find a cool skin.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

Too bad there’s nearly no cool looking weapon.
The only cool one seems to always be pvp only.

What is killing me right now about the mystic forge isn’t that some of the nicer looking skins(to me) come from it, but that I have no idea what I should even be working towards to even get said weapon in the first place.

I’ve been waiting for news about how to craft the runic blade, which apparently is called Infinite Light this time around, but really have got no real firm grasp on what to even be attempting to gather. With cosmetic progression being a main driving point for post lvl 80 goals I was hoping to have a firmer goal instead of throw tons of expensive materials into the forge and hope to stumble on the right recipe.

At this point I’ve given up on the forge and will just make do with dungeon weapons until more of the set recipes are found out. If it turns out to be another RNG item I’ll be incredibly disappointed.

I suspect that the prices of those items will rise once the TP gets a preview feature. Until then, how are people supposed to know what does and does not have a great skin?

My thoughts exactly: when preview is rolled out for TP prices of some things will change.

The obstacle is the path.

I posted this in other threads, but. The avg production cost of a precursor right now is over 300g. And it’s all korean-rng-get-very-lucky-or-lose-it-all.

I’d say this is the wrong way to go about designing the process of getting a legendary. Extreme luck should never determine something like this. And the rate at which you get a precursor, from even 4 lvl80 exotics, is way less than 1%,

I’m sure if you look hard enough, you can find plenty of videos on youtube that show dumping dozens of exotics into forge and being left with 1 exotic at the end that’s not even worth 3g.

So yeah, even if you do get a cool skin that might be worth more than 20g, that still don’t make the loss of 300g+ go away.

Anet, the system isn’t working, please fix it. Add a recipe that guarantees you a precursor, even if it’s not the one you want. Why are players like me being punished for not being rich enough to buy them at 5-20g the 1st 2 weeks? We literally cannot make enough gold to catch up with the insane exponential inflation of the price of these. They’re almost doubling in price every 2-3 days.

Entire guilds and people have put in 1000+ greatswords and got absolutely nothing. It’s a bit excessive.

The funny thing is if they were to change it and it became easier people will complain how ez it is to get legendary then they will start whining how guild wars 2 has no endgame since everything is easy to get.

Its a sad sad cycle.

But luck based success is the very opposite of legendary.

Some guy could throw in four swords and get the precursor on this very first try.

Wrong, a lot of “legendary” ( if there is such a thing) is dependent on factors beyond one’s control and thus can be tied to luck which is another form of RNG.

I’d say this is going JUST A LITTLE TOO FAR, rng-wise. Wouldn’t you?

This.
There is no real difficulty in getting a legendary at the moment, there is no challenge of skill. RNG is ARTIFICIAL DIFFICULTY, and something NO game needs.

If you want the item to be regarded so highly, than make the requirement something a little more stimulating than “won the lottery.” That’s probably the lamest “legendary achievement” I’ve ever seen.

It’s amusing that people fall back on the over quoted, “entitlement” issue. No one is asking to be given anything for free because they deserve it. They are asking that their actions be rewarding and feasible for their time and effort (because the players time is more important than ANYTHING in the game). The fact that you defend a system that rewards some over others based on LITERALLY NOTHING but probability and statistics (something that neither person has control over) is astounding.

I’m sure if you look hard enough, you can find plenty of videos on youtube that show dumping dozens of exotics into forge and being left with 1 exotic at the end that’s not even worth 3g.

Yeah, but I’d expect the same thing even with a much higher drop rate from the Mystic Forge.

Suppose the rate for level 80 exotics was 10% per attempt (which would be absurdly high and make precursors far too easy to get, not nearly on par with the other things required for a legendary). Then we should expect about 3 people out of a million to make 120 attempts (i.e. 480 exotic weapons) and still get nothing.

These people would subsequently be far more likely to tell everyone about how extraordinarily unlucky they were than the people who had much more typical results and got it after 10 or 20 tries.

So forgive me for not finding videos of the unluckiest players to be particularly convincing.

You mean the unluckiest of the players who recorded and uploaded the video, not counting the truly countless amount of attempts made every day that are not recorded what so ever.

ummmmmm, yay?

I make a lot of money buying cheap “waste product” exotics and turning them into legendary base weapons. 200G in cheap rifles netted me 3 the hunters and a few Charrzookas/Super Hyper Beam Alphas which I turned around for 500g

But yes, it’s kind of funny that all the ultra rare special named exotic weapons are regarded as so worthless.

Lucky for you… I’ve put in x220 80 exotic GS, for a couple named ones. Now did you have something of use to post? Or just fluffing yourself?

That is just extremely bad RNG, I posted this information because with enough tries t’s a net gain.

It’s a net gain if you immediately sell the item, not getting full price for it, and not being able to use it for your legendary.

You know what I want? The Deathbringer Staff. I will take that over Bitfrost, sp?, everytime for staffs. Some legendaries do look cool and some don’t. Most people just want them because they are legendary but in reality there are a hell of a lot of awesome skins you can go after. If I had a toon that used a 2 hander the Godskull 2-hander trumps Dawn/Dusk. Legendaries aren’t the only unique skins in the game, they are just the hardest to attain.
