The neccesity of crafting
too many people have maxed all or some crafting skills. there is nothing to be made from crafting. materials is also very expensive, which is why selling materials is a good way to make money.
what you need crafting for at this point is to create legendary weapons.
There is some crafted items you can make money on but you will have to spend lots of time figuring that out yourself. I can say that the top level items will not yield any profit as the materials is worth more than the items.
Chief might be the only useful skill left and can be maxed fairly easily and cheap.
many use crafting to level up alternative characters. from 0-400 in 1 crafting skill you get about 10 total levels on your character. so in a few hours you can max all crafting skills and thus get lvl 80 in no time. as long as you have the gold to waste on doing so. it will not be cheap.
if you want weapons or armor you should either use dropped items from mobs and chest or buy them from the trade post. you will out level anything you craft so dont think you can craft the items you use as you level up.
trade post is cheaper, especially if you use “place custom order” and not buy it directly.
If you don’t like the market aspect of crafting, you won’t enjoy it long term. You don’t need it, just sell your mats.
Discovery had so much potential. Were I in charge of it, it would be totally integrated with the loot system to create rather unique items that players might or might not want, but I promise it would be interesting, fun and bring life back to some of the old zones nobody goes to.
Thanks alot for answer. Is it required to have crafting skills maxed for legendaries, I vaguely recall that signets or something are crafted for them or can these be bought as well?
Thanks again though, very good answer! =)

Yes, you’ll need 400 to craft the gifts for making the legendaries. Unless you are going to multiple legendaries then two at 400 should be enough. Which two would depend on the legendary you are going for. You can not buy the gifts since they are account bound. You will also need to buy the recipes for those items from Miyani who is next to the Mystic Forge. They are 10g each.
Another use for crafting is getting ectos since you can craft lv70 rares without using ectos but salvaging lv68+ rares has a chance of giving ectos. This is obviously a gamble and depends on the current prices of items and how you think prices will change.
Crafting will make you the best weapon/armor of the game. The same as dungeon.
Is up to you, choose which way:Farming dungeon token or crafting material.
Crafting in GW2 is an accessory. Outside of legendaries and certain exotics needing gifts, its not needed for most things in the game. Its relatively easy to get to max level and costs a small fortune – 1-6g depending on craft. This is coming from someone who has 400 in all crafts and across 6 level 80’s, each character has at least 4 × 400 crafts. That means I have done 1-400 around 28x – thats how easy crafting is. There is money to be made off crafting but it’s not huge amounts.
Crafting in GW2 is different from most games as its much easier to level and as such most people use crafting to gain experience levels. Yes you can make exotics with them but you can buy them from the TP, they sell for 20-25% more than what they cost to make (15% of that is the TP cut).
Personally I’m a bit disappointed with crafting in this game, level it if you want extra levels or are going after a legendary but it’s definitely something you can go on without.
Depending upon the professions you choose it can help a bit if you make an Alt at sometime. For example my maxed Lvl 80 Warrior Weaponsmith/Armoursmith was nice to have when I made my Guardian. I don’t think I saved any money though.

crafting is nice when some mats hit rock bottom for the long term and you can’t afford to stockpile them but still need their products.
