Transfering to other servers to mine orichalcum
I haven’t read anyone asking about this before, I don’t think, nor have I read anywhere that this is an exploit. I know transferring servers is supposed to cost so if it’s free, maybe that’s bugged? If it is, then it’d be an exploit – and if it’s free for now until they get guest servering up, then I don’t think it would be considered an exploit. You still have to spent a lot of time actually finding and farming the items, so it’s still work.
Regardless, I’d like to see an official post to be sure. There are certain farms I like that I’d like to get to on a less crowded server sometimes.
What would be the point of this? Is Orichalcum not an “instanced node” like other materials, where one person mining it doesn’t eliminate the nodes for other people?
Or is this just a shady a way to try and circumvent having to wait for the nodes to re-spawn in the world?
It’s to get more without waiting, but it’s not shady if it’s not an exploit. Others should only be so clever. If it is considered an exploit, then it obviously isn’t a viable option.
From what i have read on this forum, free transfers are not a bug its intended so this cant be considered as an exploit because its intended part of the game. When they fix guest system they will disable free transfers.
They recently put a 2h cooldown on server transfers(Or at least, they’re going to) to render this tactic mostly moot. The nodes respawn by then.

I figured as much.
It’ll only remain viable so long as server transfers remain free and instantaneous, which isn’t going to be forever (as Illushia points out). Seems to me like a system being abused in its current state to achieve something outside of its intended purpose for personal gain…so yes, it’s a bit shady.
Is it against the rules, however? Maybe. Maybe not. In any case the rules aren’t there for moral arbitration or as replacements for good judgment. If it becomes rampant ANet will absolutely crack down, and you can bet that “I was just doing because I could” isn’t going to be a valid excuse.
If you have to ask if something you’re doing is wrong, you already know the answer.
well, it technically is and is not an exploit.
server transfers were not supposed to be free, so making orichalcum nodes available wasn’t going to be an issue because you probably pent more on the server transfer.
but now since the transfers are free, i would consider this an exploit, and i don’t suggest you do it just for safety.
what you can do though is mine the nodes using different characters, since each character have their own instance of nodes.
Exploit…plain and simple. People are exploiting free transfers – end of story. Gross abuser’s should be perma-banned, no 72 hour slaps on the wrist unless ALL ill-gotten gold/ore is wiped. This is not “clever use of game mechanics.” This is using a service that is NOT intended to be used in such a manner.
