Transmute materials like mithril & silk
Depends how much you value your skill points.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Skill points are less valuable now with those Scrolls of Knowledge dropping, so I’d say it depends only on whether you like the ~17 (-1 you put in) T6 mats you’re gonna get from the Mystic Troll more than the 250 T5 mats and 5 dusts you put in.
I know I do…

1. Go to the TP
2. Check the price of item you have (mithril, silk, etc.)
3. Check the price of dust.
4. Check the price of item you want.
5. Multiply price from 2 above by 250.
6. Multiply price from 3 above by 5.
7. Add 5 & 6 above together.
8. Multiply price from 4 above by 17
9. If 7 is greater than 8, do not convert. If 8 is greater than 7, convert.
You can put together a quick spreadsheet that uses the method above in formula form so that you only need to do steps 1-4 each time and the math will be done for you.

Oh god, you said the ‘s’ word. LOL.
I’m beginning to think that Excel and other similar spreadsheet software programs are starting to see more use in MMO’s than business.
I usually don’t bother transmuting because I know the TP players are VERY quick to spot any such profit margins and will fill the demand post-haste, thereby bringing commodities back to equilibrium quickly. So I just sell my excess mats and buy the ones I need.

That might be true but it still depends on what you are going to do with the resulting materials. If you are planning to use it then it can still be cheaper than buying from the TP since you don’t have to add in taxes, fees and profit.
That’s true enough. And I usually only buy amounts of 5 – 10, to pad out whatever I didn’t manage to farm myself. If one needed large quantities of a particular material, it might be cheaper to transmute it yourself.

As an engineer, I hardly, if ever, use Excel. Estimations and a 5 euro calculator are all I need to count, and notepad is my default text editor.
However, as a gamer, I use excel on an almost daily basis.

And what you might see, is that the Dust prices makes transmuting materials almost always worthless.
Dust prices are still a massive problem, and are one of the main reason why T6 materials are so overpriced.

That is definitely a factor for Transmuting to T6. Most of the lower tiers are relatively inexpensive (though also kind of pointless).
Wood / Silk? No … Never.
Mithril to Ori ? ….hell yeah, I just converted 8 stacks a few hours ago…
