Q:

Hey guys,
what is the usefulness in having 400 in a skill?
Can you make any special things you can’t buy?
Which skill 400 is the most usefull?

There is no usefulness in crafting other than to get the initial achievement points, to level your character, or to get to 500 for ascended. There’s really no profit to be made from crafting except in rare cases such as rare recipe drops.

One perk I found to be useful with a high craft level (generally speaking) — is you can always use lower tier mats you save over time to save you some coin when doing a daily or monthly salvage; instead of just buying whites or such off the TP. (make an item then salvage it again)

One big necessity is if you plan on making your own legendary as opposed to buying one, you’ll need 400 in the respective craft to make a couple required gifts. For instance, Twilight/ Sunrise requires 400 wep/armorsmithing. Armorsmith to craft Gift of Darkness, weaponsmith to craft Gift of Metal, etc.

Aside from that, unless you just flat out want an ascended weapon.. there’d be no other reason to shoot past 400.

Yes I’m a vet, yes I’m salty. Problem?

There are always those that claim money can be made crafting but it requires proper planning and monitoring of TP prices (and availablity of items and materials) to make any real profits. Those that make these claims do NOT reveal the details of their process (that I have ever seen). If they are legit, can’t say I blame them on keeping their process to themselves.

There have been recipes in the past that were useful and none tradeable. Most of the crafting was done way back when people decided to actually level their alts or main characters. The moment prices changed and everything were available on the trading post (because there’s always one person that think an mmo is just crafting and will create those items) it became useless. However if we look at the upcoming changes and just in case they are deciding to release ascended armor or craft able precursors etc. then some of the professions could be useful, since I am pretty sure that most of the items are not trade able. As it stands right now, there is nothing besides the Legendary/Ascended that requires you to have any crafting profession.

I have found that making money on the TP via crafting is possible, and massive amounts of it if you plan and dedicate your time to it. I believe there are also some lucky players who play the fast sell game and make cash quickly. In general though I dismiss most claims of instant gold from the TP. But the biggest rule in any money making program is that you need money to make money.

You don’t need much to start but you do need more if it if you want to see any large margin of profit. I only dabble with it now and then, and of course I play the long game too, when I have too much gold in my bag, I buy stuff that I know will steadily increase over time (I know with GW2 its hard to know when Anet will do something that will change the dynamics of the TP but, some items are “safe”), I buy it to basically keep up with inflation, as gold sitting in your bag is basically losing its worth over time.

I found a few items you can make and sell in mass and get a good profit returns, but it takes a bit of time to do, and I rather have 2nd account to do that, even though it really is just 15 mins of watching the bar move from left to right, it feels boring.

That’s what I did. I purchased a second account about a year ago to play on the TP with. You can easily make a ton of money on the TP if you know what you’re doing.

Lies! I reveal all!

Process as follows:
1) Write own gadget for calculating cost of making any crafted/MF item in game.
2) Check skill point -> gold conversion rates for anything intersting (Soft Wood Planks are currently intersting at 5g+/skill point at last check, making via mystic forge)
3) Check for stuff with high Gold profits (sort by that column in gadget) , that can be sold to high buy offer for profit (filter for profitable or look for rows in bold)
4) Pick a profession. Any profession. Filter by same. Filter if appropriate by level. Filter by Potentially Profitable. Sort by Profit (either the % or the flat amount)
5) Look at buy offers of anything that seems worthy. Be wary of Satches, Boxes, feasts, and anything with low buy volume.

6) Craft anything that looked worthwhile. List for not more than 50% profit (so, if it cost 1g to make, sell for no more than 1.6 or 1.7g) Begin the craft by double-clicking the row in the table and checking what it requests I acquire, and how I acquire it (Buy now, or buy later, which merchants or karma vendors, etc).
7) Get bored. Add conversion for currencies. Include Dollars. Yes, now the gadget tells me the price of the eternity, in Dollars.
8) Stay bored. Get grumpy that I can buy anything I want, but I’m still not happy.
9) Post gadget online to gw2gadget.com.

Nothing worth while. Everything you can craft you can find cheaper on the TP than the cost of the raw materials (yes folks crafting is not “free” even if you go and gather up the materials yourself).

Even consumables are cheaper to buy than the raw materials.

Part of me thinks that someone in ANet was thinking “hey, wanna see something funny? Watch this…”

That tool looks great, but I’m not liking the idea that I have to type in my GW credentials to use it. I get the reasoning, just lack the trust (and I know that’s on me).

That is why you can create your own ’’gadget’’ Really? Never heard this term before. Its simply a freaking spreadsheet. At first at was like : wow that stuff i way over my head’’, but if you’re a little comfortable with Excel it super easy and you can create what tool you prefer. You can have access to TP price on gw2spidy.com and download the information on your excel and from then play with the information as you see fit. At this point the only limit is your imagination, since the rest is only basic excel formula. Visual Basic is nice too, but its totally optional.
