If you’re anything like me, you used to use cooking to get your character a quick ten levels. It took about a gold piece and about three thousand karma. (I’d like to add I found cheap recipes and made them to get 25 levels each, then found and made another recipe for the next 25. Around 360 I had to make a few different recipes, but at 375 I could find another recipe to get from 375-400 easily. Almost all of the ingredients I used to level could be found via Karma vendors and the chef vendor.)

Then it was nerfed.

Now I’m curious as to what it would cost in karma and coin to get cooking from Level 1 to 400; but please don’t forget to include the method which you gained most of your levels.

You can’t do it anymore, at least people didn’t discover new recipes. Various ingredients, like Oranges, can’t be bought for Karma anymore, and can only be received from drop,s harvesting, etc.

Right now, you won’t be able to do it.

Butter and Cinnamon Sticks aren’t an issue but everything else that has vanished is MIA and makes Cooking downright difficult

Well, ANet put in the game that cooking is an elite profession needing much more time, money, and karma to complete. Getting to 400 with 3000 Karma and 50-something silver kinda didn’t fit that idea.

I always find these things out too late…

Thyme, herb seedlings
Black Peppercorns, herb seedlings
Chocolate, booty bags from humanoid mobs in 25+ zones
Oranges, booty bags from humanoids in roughly 35 ish areas

The worst thing is that the nerf on cooking affected leatherworking and tailoring more than anything else.

you can easily buy cheap butter in the auctionhouse
and buy the rest in the shop
that way you get to 125 easily

You can’t find soft wood? Try any level 15-40 area..they are everywhere. I have over 100 logs of soft wood in my bank..

I have to say…I’m glad that I took the time to find oranges and peach vendor and bought them in bulk. Figure that such “exploit” would probably be removed soon…and it would be worth the time to get those item even when I’m under level for those areas (died countless times). Too bad the items are account bound.
