Want to buy: Witch doctor (Clover Woes)
wow, i’ve done it twice now at 50% return
by twice i mean 77 × 2
I feel your pain brother – sitting at 40 clovers myself after easily 250 tries.
I just don’t seem to have any luck in any aspect of the gambling – still to see an ascended ring after 40+ runs at lvl 10.
I think it would be nice if RNG was balanced, E.g i may get a crap return on my clovers, ut my chances at an MF pre-cursor should be higher. Or Vice versa.
Kinda makes you kitten off that i have paid the same amount of money for the game as someone else yet there are such discrepancies between everyones RNG.
I mean if they gave me a chance to buy a precursor for the gemstore for £50 i’d probably do it the way i am feeling now – rather than everything relating to Gamble Wars 2
There are a lot of posts about the Mystic Forge, aka the Mystic Toilet. While some people are lucky, others have poured literally hundreds of gold worth of materials into and lost it all. It’s recommended that you set a limit on the amount of money you are willing to lose and not to exceed that. That way you won’t get to the end of a session with it and be penniless.
I spent 1.6million karma on obsidians to get my clovers. Didn’t bother me though, got plenty of T6 mats from it.
Karma doesn’t bother me – its the Ecto’s that do
Ugh… I have just begun making my Mystic Clovers, and am at 1/14.
I REALLY appreciate all of the Ancient Wood Planks I am getting back for my efforts. Thanks Anet. <3
Clovers have to be the most soulcrushing part of making a legendary if you have bad luck.
It’s not even that it’s really that expensive compared to other parts. Somehow though when you spend 3g in stuff and don’t get a clover it feels like 500g. I remember it well. Especially when you’ve already got “1 in 3 chance” in your head, have x amount of attempts to make and are expecting a certain amount of clovers back.
“Okay, got some stuff here for 25 attempts. Should get about 8 clovers here or so, I’ll be well on my way”
Does 25 attempts, gets 2 clovers
“WTF FJAKFDAKSFJKAHGKHSG”
There’s also the “waypoint of shame” (like walk of shame, but worse) when you have to go get more obsidian shards from the temple of balth than you expected near the end. You can also count on running out of obsidian shards again at 76 clovers, just so you have to make the trip back. If applicable, you will also happen to run out of onhand karma, just so you have to goof around and get more to buy 2 more shards or something.
hehe.

If you want to get clovers, do the single recipe instead of the 10 pack.
The reason why is because statistical probability is a bell curve.
An analogy:
If you do the 10pack, you’re throwing 10 less darts onto a dart board (blind, so you can’t aim at the middle). Multiply the score by 10.
If you do the singles, you’re throwing 10 more dart boards onto a dart board (blind, as usual). Tally the score.
Theoretically, both will get the same score. If you just throw one 10pack dart, however, there’s no guarantee.
I had already prepared myself well in advance for failure and bought over 600 shards on my first visit to the Temple of Balth because I seem to be under some sort of curse when it comes to falling on the right side of RNG. I am sensing a new thread: Mystic Clover Support Group.
I’ve gotten a total of about 150 shards (40 still in my bank) and I have nearly 40 clovers. If you’re aiming for clovers, do the single recipe. I don’t even want a legendary… I guess this is the inverse luck kicking in.
I managed to finish mine with 120 shards, all 77 clovers. Gotta love/hate RNG.
Well this is getting insane…. 1/15.
I just tried 9 of the 10 packs and got ZERO and another 45 singles and got 9
I just burnt through 135 ecto for 9 clovers
Come on this has to be some of the worst percentage, is something broken the old theory was 33% chance but this makes me want to stop completely until some this gets looked at.
I got very lucky today, out of 25 tries I got 8 clovers, 14 vials of powerful blood, a few t6 dusts, and 2 lodestones.
My prior try I got a ton of tier 6 leather and not much else though, so it comes and it goes.
Ouch! That’s really painful. I got all my clovers in about 230ish tries I think, so the average 1/3 ratio.
My suggestion, don’t do 100 recipes at a time. Luck in this game seems to fluctuate, so do clover recipes 10 at a time over a few weeks rather than hundreds in one day.

I just made three attempts a 10 Clovers which yielded:
17 Ancient Wood Planks
21 Ancient Bones
15 Ori Ingots
I then made eight attempts at one Clover which yielded:
Mystic Clover
2 Elaborate Totems
2 Ancient Wood Planks
Cured Hardened Leather Section
4 Vials of Powerful Blood
Mystic Clover
2 Ancient Bones
3 Bolts of Gossamer
That is over one month of daily Mystic Coins for two Mystic Clovers. I feel like this entire process will lead to just farming CoF Path 1 just to get enough gold to buy more Mystic Coins and Ectoplasms. Pretty discouraging really.
Finally finished my bow 2 days ago, final count was right around 340 tries for the 77 clovers.

hehe.
When you set out to buy your shards, buy something like 300-400+ shards, in one go. That way, even if you burn through your other stack of shards, when you come back you at least know exactly how much you’ll need (assuming the clovers are done already).
I feel your pain guys. 14 tries on the X10 recipe and got only 20 clovers:<
These things seemed to make a difference for me;
- forging in overflow got lower drop rate
- crystal, ecto, shard, coin in that order gave better drop rate
Now I know none of that makes a difference, but I watched this closely and that’s what it seemed like. No guarantees
Seems clover drops got a hard stealth nerf a few weeks ago, even though ANet will never admit that.
We have several folks doing clovers, including myself. Although one could argue that it’s still a small sample, the difference between now and a few weeks ago is marked for at least 10 people. I used to get around 1 in 3 tries as also noted on the wiki. Now it’s more like 1 in 6-8 tries.
Which recipe you use seems to be quite irrelevant, both have similar returns.

I can’t get my head around why there would have been such a nerf to this. It would seem a little mean spirited to make this any more of a slog than it is already proving to be. But I have to admit that the whole chance factors of participating in activities in GW2 is really sucking the enjoyment out of things I once liked doing in game. I used to really enjoy gathering materials to make rare dye recipes, but after having never received one rare dye after several attempts at making one in a variety of colors, I just stopped bothering to try. Gathering herbs in Charr zones in the hopes of finding chili peppers has so graciously provided me with nearly 600 peppercorns, and while slaying centaur after centaur to satiate a killer craving for chocolate did wonders for my hoof collection, my hankering for even a small bit of chocolate was left completely unfulfilled. I don’t want to take part in activities that disappoint or waste my time. Who does really??
Sorry for high-jacking the typing stick of our support group, guys, but I had to get that off my chest!
I finally finished making my clovers this weekend. Reading these posts and similar ones can get you worried. However it turned out exactly how many of those who already finished said it would.
Starting with 250 ecto, 250 mystic coin, and 250 ob shards, with the philosopher stones (1 clover recipe only) it took me 224 combines to finish the 77 clovers. Which is right about where it is predicted. With some very unusual runs during the time. Once it took 9 combines to get one. Other times I would get a couple back to back. I suppose if you can’t stomach the gamble then just do 1 at a time like I did. Only during that one bad stretch was I thinking “maybe I’m hitting DR” or something as an excuse. It gave me many t6 mats. Once it gave me 5 mystic coins back which I thought was a weird reward.
Point is have enough mats to start with sit down and throw them all in the toilet and I bet you’ll end up with around 30% success rate (I can only speak for the 1 clover recipe. I don’t know anyone who has done them all using the 10 clover one).
tldr: Had enough mats to finally finish the clovers during one sitting at the forge. Was around 33% success rate with long stretches of good and bad luck during the sitting.
Congratulations! You must feel SO relieved! <3
well i started doing my clovers last week im at 19/77 long ways to go. yesterday i did 16 single’s and got 3 clovers, but I’m need the t6 mats anyways. need more coins though.

hype over.
40 clovers after 360 tries… must be a new record
So gross! I am so sorry to hear about your Gift of Misfortune. I am up to six clovers now. I had four goes on both Monday and Tuesday night which gave me:
Mystic Clover
3 Vicious Claws
Mystic Clover
3 Elaborate Totems
4 Elaborate Totems
3 Bolts of Gossamer
Mystic Clover
4 Ancient Bones
And then on Wednesday I just tried one on a whim and got a clover back.
well now with ecto’s going down in price maybe ill get mine faster. currently at 36/77. been running dungeons/dragons like crazy. i think ive got more rare’s in the past few days then playing for the past 3 months. lol

They should really just remove the 10 clover recipe. It causes people nothing but frustration. sure there are still a few very unlucky people with the 1 clover recipe, but most of them are from the 10 clover one. No matter how many times you tell people not to do it they just can’t help but do it anyway.
On the plus side ectos are very easy to get now so people can do more attempts. It took me 300 ob shards to get my 77, I was pretty much average I guess. Never used the 10 recipe though.
Prompted by the daily achievement, I made five attempts at a Clover last night and got:
4 Vicious Fangs
4 Vials of Powerful Blood
2 Vials of Powerful Blood
Putrid Essence
Putrid of Essence
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…
funny with im done with 80 clovers with a 1:8 RNG, naw with i’m hoping to save my monies for t6 mats its like 80% atm , curse u zomorros!
My first attempt at clovers and I can surely say, I lucked out BIG TIME. I tried 9 times since I only had 93 Ectos.
I got 40 Clovers, 28 Powerful Venom, 10 Oynx Lodestones, 34 E. Totems, 22 Ori Ingots and the 18 Harden Leather. I know I’m happy and should be because I could be having these horror stories like everyone going for my last 37 Clovers.
22 attempts with the 10x recipe for me yielded 100 mystic clovers…. I wanted less clovers and more mats!

You could have sold those extra ectos and gotten mats with them instead of trying your luck at something you already achieved.
I only had 3 failed attempts for all the ones I needed. I was lucky. I was doing sets of 10s.
my BF on the other hand just did 16 attempts at sets of tens, so 160 attempts.. He only succeeded once and has now decided he doesn’t want a legendary any more.
(Of course this just means more work for me to get him his silly legendary staff behind his back… at least it will be romantic right?)

lol How sweet is that! :-)
Back to “business”: I used the 10 clover recipe untill 70 clover and then the 1 recipe for the rest.
I did not make more than 3 attempts on a play day or if i got 10 clovers at the first or at the second try, i did not try it again. I don’t remember exactly but i’m rather sure i did not need more than 12 attempts to get 70 clovers. My kinmate had 8 or more attempts with the 10 recipe without any clovers at the end. All this was before Fire & Frost.
Since the last patch i have that suspicion too – as someone mentioned earlier – that some kind of “nerf” had taken place on the forge. Before the patch i got usually at least1 rare item from 5 attempts by forging level 80 green stuff. But since the patch i can do 8 or 10 tries without any rares at the end.

Since Fire & Frost I’m 100% (5/5) on clovers and looking at a 60% yield on rares from tossing 4 greens into the forge. I also broke my no-ecto streak (just prior to F&F I was 0/12) with an average of > 1 ecto / rare salvaged (somewhere around 20 salvages—I lost count).

Yep.. I know. I was gambling to get more out of the forge since you can get up to 60 of certain mats…. I even got 60 ectos back one time to keep going. Hindsight is 20/20 though….

It is for me now more than a vague suspicion that the droprate of rares from the forge are someway nerved. Yesterday we do a lot of group-content changing members of the group with guild and friends. I din’t talk about the forge but 4 people said after a while “hm …the forge don’t like me any more. no rares after so and so many attempt” or asking im TS “somethin’ is wrong, i didn’t got any rares for a while from the forge!”
I hate silent nervs.
