Watchwork Mechanism
I even crafted one with Weaponsmithing. It takes 500 Watchwork Sprockets and it makes 1 Watchwork Mechanism (Rare). It has a spot in the collectibles tab and when you right-click it you get the option to buy/sell on TP, but it doesn’t show up on my list of items I can sell. I wasn’t able to search for it on TP either.
It doesn’t appear as a component on the discovery tab either.
Time to invest in Watchwork Sprockets?
What is it and what does it do?
Not sure what they do yet. Haven’t seen any recipes or any clues about how it might work. Possibly part of the Power/Precision/Healing sets that were announced?
I assume it will be used in multiple crafts, however, since it is craftable in several different crafting professions at lvl 400.
I have Weaponsmithing at 500 and I couldn’t see any use for it in the main page or an option to use it on the discovery tab.
I think we are looking at the new candy corn cob – its a way of getting the sprockets off of the market in large amounts. Considering what happened to candy corn prices, I suspect its a good idea to invest in these in large amounts.
That would make a lot of sense. Were those craftable? I never got into that event.
UPDATE: the Watchwork Mechanism is now tradeable on the TP.
it’s how they go about making an item that requires 25,000 of something. it’s not as elegant to require 3 stacks of watchwork sprockets – it looks cleaner to turn 500 sockets into 1 mechanism, then require 100 mechanisms to make a go-kart you can drive. it also hides the true price.
you know, I would definitely pay 50,000 sprockets for a go-kart… it has perma-swiftness and it’s own health – once it gets destroyed from enemy hits you have to make a new one.

Well, I`ve filled a bank slot with sprockets. After the disappointment on the runes, I think sprockets will be a good investment if candy corn was anything to go by. There will be some income from smashing up scarlets clockworks, but by the initial reception of the event, I think we may be looking at another tequatl, where only the dedicated get into the action.
I made a good profit on desert roses and I`ve got a good feeling about this one too.
There are now Exquisite Watchwork Sprockets available on the TP, and yes they have Power, Prec, Healing attributes.
There are now also recipes for that Rare level jewel, as well as Exotic level Rings, Earrings and Amulets. No back piece that I can see, but the Ascended Keeper’s gear has the same stats and probably requires these sprockets.
I’m not sure if these are worth the effort or an investment.

Hmm, interesting find. So the Exquisite Watchwork Sprocket is a new Rare level jewel? How does one acquire these? (I’m assuming they can be crafted from normal Sprockets.)

It’s a recipe that can be bought on the TP, and I assume it’s dropping in the Marionette boss encounter.
But like I said, I’m not sure it’s worth the investment. The “Go Zerk, or Go Home and Take Your Ball With You Crowd” are not likely to switch from “Power, Prec, Ferocity” to “Power, Prec, Healing”.
Just a little update, as Zealots recipes are now available as well on the tp, didnt get a drop myself yet. Not sure if there is a merchant that sells them even for sprockets (i hope not because i just bought alot recipes on the tp).
They function quite similar to celestial recipes, as you need not only the recipe for the inscription/insignia but also for each weapon armor piece.
They crafted product is account bound, so you will have to learn those recipes to craft your own stuff. They insignia/inscription requires 1 watchwork mechanism to craft.
The only difference to celestial crafting is that its not time gated and there seem to be a few recipes for armor boxes/satchels available on the tp.
Those recipes seem to drop as well, as they are not able to be made in the mf with a coat/crystals/wine/coins.

For some it might be a good alternative to knights to get power as main stat and switch toughness for healing power.

Which professions or builds would use this gear in an optimal set up?
Which professions or builds would use this gear in an optimal set up?
In pve at least it won’t be optimal. However, when struggling to survive in full dps gear, a couple pieces of Zealots (sort of like training wheels) would be a good substitute from knights due to power being the primary stat, and still having precision.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

he needs precise answers so he knows which recipes will be most demanded and will have the best Return of Interest.

Then I would say elementalist and guardian.

Actually, I was mostly curious because it has limited value in pve and wvw. Isn’t spvp all normalized? So it was mostly a rhetorical question, as in no value.

Well, it gives you a choice to gear for healing instead of toughness. Apart from Ele and Guardian, i can also see warriors with their high base vitality and good access to healing giving it a spin in wvw.

That’s fair.

I know that Healing Power is pretty useless in PvE, but what about using the zealots gear along with something like Superior Sigil of Water/Blood? The increased precision and healing power could work pretty well together for some group heals (albeit small) and life stealing (again, small). This would be more useful in PvP/WvW than PvE.
I got the recipe: Exquisite Rare Sprocket Jewel from Marionette fight chest. (We lost.)
When my jeweler learned it, it said: You have learned Exquisite Watchwork Sprocket (Exotic).
Recipe requires: 150 sprockets, 1 orichalcum filigree, 1 ecto.
Creates a level 80 upgrade component with: 25 Power, 15 Precision, 15 Healing

Keep in mind that this is the crafting forum. Discussing builds might make more sense in your appropriate class forum. Most people posting and reading here are interested in the craft mechanics.

I already bought every zealot/sprocket recipe available on the TP. Considering the watchwork sprocket costs for each piece of armor/weapon/trinket, its quite an expensive set, (500 for a weapon/piece of armor, 750 for a trinket).

Yeah, I’m considering buying up the full set too. (Except the Satchels. I generally ignore those.) I wonder if they’ll still be available even after the Marionette fight is gone though. It seems a rather short window of opportunity to get them otherwise, especially since the finished items are account bound and can’t be sold.

It was the same timeframe for celestial recipes even though you could trade common crafting mats for zephyr supply boxes during the event, which dropped the recipes.
I think the zealot recipes will be a limited drop. They might stop dropping with the next LS patch or keep dropping over a couple of LS releases, just like the vendor for spore recipes was available through several Tower of Nightmare releases in Kessex Hills.
The satchel recipes will be worth as much as the 6 different armor recipes combined, so an easy way to save some space, if you want to invest.

It’s also possible a vendor will be put in that trades Watchwork Sprockets + coin for the recipes. Might be a good long-term way to soak up additional supply now that players are getting a Sprocket generator in their home instances. (Plus, bonus gold sink.)
But regardless, I’m going to get a set for my own use anyway.

There already was general demand for sprockets through the runes and sigils introduced during the Jubilee.
